Fundamental unit of life (cells) are the basic fundamental unit of life. Cells are a basic unit of structure and function in life. Cells are broadly classified into plant and animal cells. Each cell has organelles that help them to perform certain functions. Several cells can work together to form tissues and organs.

Difference Between Cytosol and Cytoplasm

Cytosol can be defined as the cellular component present within the cytoplasm and often known as the matrix of the cytoplasm. While, Cytoplasm refers to the intracellular fluid surrouded by the cell membrane in the cell. Cytosol is basically a component of the Cytoplasm.

Example: Cytoplasm and cytosol are biologically the same. Comment yes or no. Justify the statement if no.

Solution: No, Cytoplasm and Cytosol are not the same biologically. Cytoplasm refers to the thick, viscous solution surrouded by the cell membrane, holding all the cell organelles except the nucleus. While, Cytosol is the cellular component usually found within the cytoplasm. It is responsible for performing various metabolic activities. They are often used interchangeably but are not the same biologically.

Osmosis

Osmosis can be defined as a spontaneous movement solvent particles through a semipermeable membrane usually to the low concentration of the given solution from the high concentration of the given solution. 

The two types of Osmosis are:

  • Endosmosis: Endosmosis usually comprises the usage of hypotonic solution.
  • Exosmosis: Exosmosis comprises the usage of hypertonic solution.

Diffusion

Diffusion refers to the movement of molecular level particles from a given higher concentration to a particular region of lower concentration. Diffusion is otherwise also called the mode of passive transportation.

Solution: Two important points of Diffusion include:

  • Diffusion is responsible to keep the inside of plant tissues' cell walls consistently moist.
  • Diffusion is a go-to for ions and various other chemicals to spread throughout the protoplast.
