The change hits Indian applicants planning stays of 24 months or longer in New Zealand. Immigration New Zealand, or INZ, will no longer chase missing certificates after you apply. A missing certificate can now mean a decline, a shorter visa, or a fresh application with a new fee.

What Immigration New Zealand Changed for Visa Files

You must provide one from your country of citizenship. You also need one from any country where you lived 5 years or more since turning 17. The certificate must be less than 6 months old when you submit.

Indian applicants get their PCC through the Passport Seva portal. Processing includes document checks and local police verification. An Indian PCC is typically valid for 6 months, so timing matters.

What Happens if Your Police Certificate Is Missing

The outcome now depends on where you apply from. INZ set separate rules for offshore and onshore applicants. Both can end in a shorter visa or a decline.

A shorter visa is not a simple fix later. To stay for the full course, you must apply again with the certificate. That second application carries a new visa fee.
