DU Approves New Rules for Ph.D. Courses; At Least 2 Papers to be Published in 'Credible' Journals

New Delhi: Delhi University has released a new set of rules to offer admission to its various PhD courses. According to the new rules, scholars must publish at least two papers in a 'credible' journal and must have cleared the CUET PhD entrance exam.

According to a Delhi University official, a publication of at least two research papers in "renowned and credible" journals, evaluation of thesis by research supervisor besides external examiners, and relaxation for non-teaching staff to pursue Ph.D. are among the changes that will be introduced by Delhi University for its Ph.D. courses from the 2023-2024 academic year.

Even though the students will get admission to the Ph.D. program through CUET PhD, the teaching and non-teaching category serving in the university can directly appear for the interview to seek PhD Admission.

"We have asked departments to prepare a list of renowned and credible journals. The university will consider the publication of papers in these journals only," Prakash Singh, Director of South Campus, Delhi University, said.

While the move toward increased publication requirements is likely to bolster the overall quality of research, concerns have been raised about the potential impact on accessibility to the PhD program.
