DU has postponed OBE Exams, shall begin from July 10
Delhi University has postponed the dates of Open Book Exams (OBE) and the exams are now scheduled to begin from July 10.
The Open Book Exams were scheduled for final semester students of regular and open learning courses. Delhi University previously scheduled the exams to commence from July 1. Stating the prime reason as COVID-19 crisis, the university took to deferring the dates as of now.
Before DU pushed the Online Open Book Exams by 10 days, the varsity had to face widespread resentment from faculty members and students alike.
On Friday, DU’s MEd students had written to the VC and submitted Google survey reports claiming students' inability to appear for online OBE due to issues from lack of internet connectivity, assistive devices, reading material and so on.
Meanwhile, faculty members also demanded to scrap OBE completely. The teachers had written to the VC, which MHRD also appreciated.
Prior to these events, at first, DU’s Philosophy professors voiced against holding online Open Book Exams, claiming it would be discriminatory for visually impaired students.
At that instant, even Delhi HC refrained from interfering stating it to be an internal matter of the university. Post this, All India Students’ Association (AISA) student-members staged protests at the Arts faculty demanding cancellation of all online and offline examinations.
The incident led to Maurice Nagar police putting 11 students and teachers behind bars on charges of breaking lockdown rules. Afterwards, they were released on signing affidavits that comply with section 144.
Meanwhile, a number of students complained regarding mishandling online OBE. Uploading answers over the website has been challenging, as per students of DU’s affiliated colleges.
As the University brings new changes, speculations are high that objections from faculty and students have straightened things out. All the new dates of examinations will be announced on July 3, for final year undergraduate and postgraduate courses along with DU School of Open Learning, Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB).
As per the official notice on OBE postponement released by Delhi University, which reads as:

The official notification further states that DU will conduct Mock Tests for Open Book Exams from July 4.
