Education Minister: India to invite Top 100 International Universities for Knowledge Exchange under NEP 2020

The Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ was addressing the 8th convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology, Indore via video-conferencing on Monday, October 19, when he shared the impact of NEP 2020.

The Education Minister stated at IIT Indore that the new National Education Policy (NEP 2020) will aid in preventing major brain drain from the country. The government is designing a strong framework for the campaign ‘Study in India.’

The Stay in India campaign will accelerate research and related domains in Universities and Higher institutes and will pave simpler ways to research in Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs).

Around 7.5 lakh to 8 lakh Indian students are studying abroad. This huge brain drain is a major setback for the monetary funds of the country as 1.5 lakh crore funds are directly transferred to foreign countries.;

Earlier, during an online international webinar named “India the Global Destination for Higher Education, post-NEP 2020" helmed by IIT Kharagpur Alumni Foundation and IIT-KGP on October 9-10, 2020, the minister emphasized the core unique pattern to be the credit bank system, awarding certificate, degrees, and diplomas.

NEP 2020: Knowledge Exchange with international universities

India will invite the top 100 international universities for “knowledge exchange” under NEP 2020. The government of India is trying to promote higher education institutions of the country as an international brand under its ‘study in India’ campaign.

Minister further stated that around 50,000 foreign students had already registered for admission in leading institutes of the country. Though, the admission process is temporarily on hold due to the coronavirus outbreak.

IIT Indore: 8th Convocation

A total of 412 students from all different courses successfully graduated on Monday. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the institution has conducted convocation virtually.
