Engineering is one of the most desired and common career choices in India. Every year, millions of students appear for Engineering Entrance Exams to secure admissions. Students from the Science stream with PCM or PCB as main subjects are eligible to appear for the entrances. They get to choose from the various available streams available of B.Tech.

Choosing a college/ university to pursue Engineering is also a tedious task for the aspirants. Apart from IITs and other state universities, there are many private universities which offer Engineering courses. These universities conduct their own entrance exams to provide admission to the students. Students used to be apprehensive about choosing a private university to pursue Engineering, but the trend has changed now. Some private universities have emerged as students’ go-to choice for pursuing Engineering as they offer high-paying jobs through their placement opportunities and tie-ups with the best corporate organizations.


The following list has information about the top five Engineering Entrance Exams conducted by private universities:


CUCET is an entrance cum scholarship test named as Chandigarh University-Common Entrance Test (CUCET) for admission to various programs offered by Chandigarh University.

The exam offer admissions into Engineering, Management, Arts, Architecture Design & Planning and various other courses after the completion of Secondary education.

CUCET is also used to offer admission into after graduation programs and for lateral entry programs in the field of engineering, pharma and applied science offered at Chandigarh University.

CUCET exam contains a total of 100 MCQs which are to be attempted in 120 minutes. The exam does not have any negative marking which enables the candidate to attempt more questions and increase scores in the exam.

Candidates can appear for the CUCET online exam from their comfort of home. A student appearing for the exam will require a laptop or PC with a camera.

Further, candidates who have scored more than 90% in their 10+2 may need to take the entrance test. However, if the result is not declared then candidates are recommended to appear for CUCET.

The registration for CUCET 2021 began on December 14, 2020, and will end May 29, 2021. The first phase of the CUCET exam will be conducted in the month of May 2021.


LPUNEST is the common entrance test conducted by LPU for admission to its various programs including B.Tech. It is also conducted for B.Tech. (Lateral Entry) admission as well. It is considered to be the biggest private entrance test in India.

The exam is conducted across 50 countries, 200 cities. It is also considered as the scholarship test, from which a student can avail a scholarship up to Rs. 7.5 lakhs. Ever since its inception, more than 50,000 students have been appearing for the exam every year. Indian students studying in 10+2 can apply for the exam through the official website of the university. They must secure 60% aggregate marks with PCM or PCM subjects in order to be eligible for the exam.

The exam is conducted in online mode in 110 test centers across India. This year the registration started in the first week of Jan. The last date to apply for the exam is February 26, 2021. While the exam will be conducted between February 27, 2021- March 6, 2021, The result will be declared on March 6, 2021.


VITEEE is the common entrance test exam for VIT Vellore, Chennai, AP and Bhopal campuses. It is conducted by VIT University for admission to its various courses including B.Tech. Approximately 2 lakh candidates appear for the exam to grab the available 5000 seats. The exam is held in 117 test cities across India and 4 international cities - Dubai, Muscat, Qatar, and Kuwait. The entrance is conducted in online mode.

Candidates who secure an aggregate of 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology in 10+2 are eligible to apply for the entrance. The application form of the exam is made available in online and offline modes. For the year 2021, the exam is scheduled to be held from 2nd to 3rd week of April 2021. The last date to apply is March 30, 2021. The result is expected to be announced in April last week.


BITSAT is a computer-based online test conducted by BITS Pilani for the admissions to integrated first-degree programs of BITS campuses in Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad. BITSAT is scheduled to be conducted in 50 cities across India as well as in an international center in Dubai, UAE.

Candidates who are appearing in 10+2 in 2021 or who have completed their 10+2 in 2020 are eligible to appear for BITSAT. The online application form was released in the 3rd week of December 2020. The last date to apply is 2nd week of March 2021 The exam will be conducted from 3rd to 4th week of May 2021. The result is expected to be declared in the month of June.

SRMJEEE is a Joint Entrance Examination for Engineering for admission to B.Tech courses offered by SRM University in its various campuses of Chennai, Amaravati and Sonepat. The examination will be held in multiple centres across different cities in India as well as at 5 international cities of Dubai, Muscat, Kuwait, Bahrain and Doha.

The online application forms have been released on the official website of SRM. The exam will be conducted in online mode and is expected to be scheduled in the first or second week of April 2021.


MET is a university-level exam conducted by Manipal University for admission to B.Tech and other UG/PG programs. MU OET/MET is an online exam The basic eligibility to apply for MET is 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Exam dates of MET have not been announced yet.
