Schools in Kolkata are stuck in a muddle over the resumption of physical classes. The West Bengal Government has no clue about when to resume the offline classroom activities.

The lack of clarity and information was a serious barrier and a constant source of anxiety in the minds of students. Presently, the education proceedings are taking place in online mode. But, there is a question whether the whole session will be carried online or they must switch to offline mode.

School authorities who are answerable to the parents, themselves lack any kind of idea with the government remaining tight-lipped. Asked about the situation Principal of BD Memorial, Bijoya Choudhury said that they will continue in the online mode of teaching in all classes.

When asked if the school would charge a covid fee from the students, she stated that the institute had no such intention. According to her, the school would start the process for online classes as soon as they receive notification from the education department of the state.

Another principal said that the situation was 50-50 and they had no clear idea regarding the situation. The decision for re-opening has been left entirely on the shoulders of the government. He further said that they would not charge additional fees for enforcing the safety protocols whenever the schools start.

However, according to another principal, the daily cost that would be consumed to ensure the safety protocols would be quite high. Schools will look for alternative ways to fund the additional expense and the state looked the most agreeable option as yet.

Covid 19 safety protocols include full classroom sanitization, masks, temperature guns, and lower classroom strength. The overall expenditure for maintaining the same every day would also add up to be a big sum.

West Bengal CM and Educational Minster have not announced any kind of schedule as of yet. However, when asked about the resumption of classes, the Education Minister Mr. Chatterjee had said that the state would not take any decision that would harm or endanger the students.
