Maharashtra Govt Re-introduces Annual Exams for Class 5, 8, No Detention Policy Scrapped; Check Details Here

New Delhi: According to an official, the Maharashtra government has reinstated annual exams for Class 5 and 8, which will let schools hold pupils if they do not pass these tests on their second attempt.

This is in response to the Centre modifying the Right to Education (RTE) Act, which did not have failure detention until Class 8. The state School Education Department issued a notification to this effect on Friday.

According to the no detention policy mandated by the RTE 2009, schools were not permitted to hold any students till Class 8. As per the notification, classes 5 and 8's annual exams will take place at the conclusion of the current academic year.

If the student doesn't pass the test, more instruction will be given, and the exam will be given again in two months. However, it stated that the child would be held back in the same Class if he or she did not pass the re-examination.

However, it was made plain that no pupil would be dismissed from the school until they had finished their elementary education. It was amended in 2019 to allow governments to reintroduce tests and imprison students who failed them.
