DU Second-Phase of OBE: Only One-fourth of total Registered Candidates Opt for Offline Mode

Delhi University's second phase of the Open-Book examination for final year UG and PG students will be held from September 14, 2020. This time, the DU has also given an option to either write the exam online or visit the examination centres. Only 3,000 students have opted to appear for exams in offline mode.

Out of these 12,000 registered students, 10,000 are from School of Open Learning (SoL), 2,000 are from affiliated colleges and Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board (NCWEB). The students who will not be attempting these exams, will have to write the exams online, said DU's officiating Dean of Examination DS Rawat.

Delhi University's first phase of OBE was held online between August 10 and August 31, 2020. As per the data submitted by the Delhi University in the Delhi High Court, out of 2,53,677 final year UG and PG students, 23,12,256 had taken the first phase of OBE.

Out of all the DU colleges, only a few students have opted to appear for physical examinations. 16 students of Miranda House have applied for the second phase of OBE, out of which only three students will be appearing physically. 34 students of Ramjas College will take the physical examination and 8 students of ARSD college have opted offline exam mode. There are some colleges, where no student has opted for offline mode of examination, Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) and Aryabhatta College are among those.

SRCC Principal Smriti Kaur disclosed in a statement that only 6 students of the college will be appearing for the second phase of OBE, but none of them have chosen physical mode. 

DU's Dean of Colleges and Director of SoL Balram Pani said, "Every year thousands of SoL students do not appear in exams. The majority of them are working. It's just that the data is being analyzed for the first time." Read DU OBE Phase 2 Guidelines

The University cites the success of the first phase of the online Open-Book examination as the reason for the majority of students opting for the second-phase of OBE in online mode.
