Partha Chatterjee Directs West Bengal Higher Educational Institutions to Remain Shut till July 31

West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee has announced that all the state-run higher educational institutions will remain closed for students and all the academic activities will remain suspended until July 31, 2020, 2020 due to coronavirus pandemic. 

While talking to the reporters, the Minister of Education said that the head of the university would set out to carry out the administrative functions while at the same time ensuring the health of the staff.

"Previously, it was decided to extend the suspension of academic activities in higher education institutions until 30 June.

However, in view of the prevailing situation (due to the outbreak of coronavirus) the Government has decided to extend the period until 31 July 2020.

I am announcing this after speaking to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the matter, "said the Minister.

Schools in the state will also remain closed until 31 July 2020 due to a pandemic situation, announced earlier by the Minister.

Responding to the question on the conduct of the remaining WB 12th examination, the Minister said that all preparations are being made to conduct the remaining Class 12 examination papers of the West Bengal Higher Secondary Education Council and that "the government is keeping a close watch on the emerging situation."

Earlier this month, the Minister announced revised WBCHSE date sheet 2020 for the remaining papers, according to which the examinations will take place on July 2, 2020, July 6, 2020 and July 8, 2020.

To a question if final semester exams will be held in universities or the students will be evaluated on basis of marks in previous semesters, the minister said: “The government will make a decision on the issue of holding semester exams after June 26, 2020.”
