NEP 2020 to be made 'STEM-C' by including Agriculture and Computer Science, Suggested Rajasthan Governer

Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra on Monday proposed the inclusion of Computer Science and Agriculture in the newly introduced NEP 2020. 

The National Education Policy 2020 will boost Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education in India, as the policy recognizes the need for flexibility in choosing the subjects that a student wants to study. 

In the Governor's Conference's Inaugural session conducted virtually on September 7, Kalraj Mishra suggested that Agriculture and Computer Science should also be included in the NEP 2020, making it 'STEM-C' which will make higher education more employment-oriented for the students.

The virtual conference entitled- 'The Role of NEP 2020 in the Transformation of Higher Education' was organized by the Ministry of Education. President Ram Nath Kovind, Education ministers from all states. VC of Universities and other senior officials were also part of the conference.

Mishra informed that implementation of NEP 2020 in accordance with the Centre directions has begun in Rajasthan and Raj Bhawan has also constituted a task force for the same. 

He further added that successful implementation of the policy by all states can bring India at par with the leading countries of the world and can convert the present challenges into opportunities. NEP will further reduce the dropout rate as the policy focuses on increasing the attainment level through quality education.

Whereas the Education Minister of West Bengal has put the NEP 2020 implementation on hold as he believes it undermines the country's federal structure. Partha Chatterjee also objected to the Centre's decision of not including Bengali in the list of classical languages. Read More
