West Bengal's CM to give the final nod to resolutions submitted by VCs of universities

Partha Chatterjee, West Bengal Education Minister, stated on Saturday that vice-chancellors of state universities have submitted a resolution on the modalities in which the final semester exams will be conducted in the wake of the current COVID-19 situation. 

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is supposed to have the final say on the matter. Partha Chatterjee has mentioned that the health and safety of students, teachers as well as non- teaching staff is not to be compromised in any manner. An advisory will be issued by the education department addressing universities and affiliated colleges on the future plan of action, however, it is not to interfere with academic autonomy at all. 

Partha Chatterjee also stated that state universities are in contact with higher educational institutions outside West Bengal in order to consult them on their plan of action. Chatterjee said that the state-run/aided schools will remain closed throughout July following the announcement made by the chief minister previously. 

A Calcutta University official has said that the final semester exams for B.Tech and M.Tech students will be conducted online. These will include the evaluation of projects as well as the end-semester interviews.
