Remarks

Everything seems good but some of the downsides include more student strength, fewer jobs available, a single placement policy, increasing fees. The student strength is very high & reduces the chances of placements.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum is very advanced in Thapar as we have Machine Learning, AI, Cybersecurity & Cloud Computing in our syllabus. The curriculum is revised every year to keep up with pace of rising industry. The Exam structure involves MST - Mid-semester exams, EST - End Semester Exams & Sessionals. Weightage of the same is around MST - 30% EST - 40% SESS - 30%

Placement Experience

4

Thapar has good placements. The maximum placement package is 41lpa for Microsoft. Also, the average package for Computer Engineering floats around 10-11lpa. The college also offers internships to 3rd & 4th Year students in well-reputed companies including Microsoft, Cisco, JP Morgan Chase. The stipend for interns ranges between 30K - 80K.

College Events

4

Thapar hosts Technical & Cultural Fests every year on a regular basis. The fests include Saturnalia - Annual Cultural Fest Orion - Intra Year Tech Fest TFF - Thapar Food Festival Kaleidoscope - Annual Photo Art Exhibition Elixir - Annual Literary Summit Spades - Inter College Sports Fest All the events have a gathering of around 1000-1500 Students every year.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure at Thapar is almost around the same as in any private college in India. The total fee for BE for four years is around 20lacs including hostels, mess, and all other charges. The fee is pretty feasible as per the quality of education & placements.

Fees and Financial Aid

Thapar offers various scholarships starting from full fee waivers for four years, on a CGPA basis. Also, there are scholarships for half the tution fee. The loan facility is available from SBI & PNB inside the campus itself at a 10.5% interest rate.

Campus Life

5

The are various extracurriculars available including Cricket, Basketball, Baseball, Football, Tennis, Badminton, Squash, Swimming, Running. The sports infrastructure is very well maintained in Thapar as it's the sports hub in the Punjab region.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The hostel infrastructure is very good at Thapar. Hostels have ACs installed. All the furniture is well furnished with modern styling. Other facilities including mess, washrooms, laundry is also good. The mess is handled by Sodexo, hence the quality remaining good.

Alumni/Alumna

Thapar has the strongest alumni network in entire India. We have 25000 alumni connected thru our own alumni platform. Also on Linked In & Facebook, we have groups by the name 'Thaparian' which have 10K-15K members. All the seniors are very supportive & are always ready to help in each and every aspect. Seniors are the first guides in college starting from the orientation.

Admission

I got admission on the basis of my JEE Rank. My JEE rank was around 50K and I got Computer Engineering, the highest branch in college. The admission process involves filling of online application in mid May, followed by 3 online counseling rounds. After the on-line rounds students are called for admission on the campus in offline rounds.

Faculty

3.5

Thapar has a faculty strength of 500+ full-time professors who reside in the college residential area itself. All the faculty is well trained. Most of the professors here are either Ph.D. or Masters in the field. The faculty is very supportive as well, and solves our doubts, whenever required.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
