Remarks

Fees, some teachers and non essential subjects. There is not as much unity present in the students as you may think. if there is a issue for the whole group of students it usually takes a lot of time to get solved. Strikes happens on ridiculous things(sometimes).

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Many courses are not required but are still being taught. Exams are divided into 3 or 4 parts depending upon the no of credits of the subject. 100 marks of each subject are divided into Mid semester test, end semester tests, sessionals and practicals.

Placement Experience

3

It does provide internsip but to the miniscule amount of students. Estimate is 50 out of 750 from what I have seen. Stipend is based on what companies provide. Placements are good atleast according to the previous placement charts. Mine is next year so I can't give you exact review.

College Events

3.5

Techincal events : saturnalia (college tech fest) Sport fest : urja Mudra is a society which keeps organisingany cultural and social events. Freshers party is organised by a society called Frosh. Many more events keep happening all year around. You can't keep track of all. And if you I dont know how much can you study for exams.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Expensive since the fees is almost double the fees of any other IIT or NIT for each semester. The hostel and mess fee are also costly. It will cost around 15 Lacs for the degree only excluding hostel, mess and travelling expenses during 4 years.

Fees and Financial Aid

There is a good scholarship for students who maintain themselves in the top 30 as well their cgpa above a certain point throughout all semesters. There is a SBI branch that provides student loan for 4 years. The rate of interest keeps fluctuating but the fluctuation is small.

Campus Life

4.5

Labs are good. Many sports complex and fields are present for students to do any kind of extracurricular activities. There is a sports fest URJA that happens to bring people from different colleges to compete with the teams in Thapar. Many teams participate in events at different colleges. Dance team is awesome. Cricket team is also awesome. Many societies are there for a student to join based on their interests.

Hostel Facilities

3

I did for the 1st semster only. Facilities are good. Everything is present and some problems can occur but it usually gets resolved pretty fast to keep the students free from interruptions. Food quality is the most irritating thing. It keeps fluctuating throughout the semester.

Alumni/Alumna

If you know them, they can be helpful. But if you don't i don't think so taht they can be as much helpful. The college faculty arranges meetings with the alumni but it rrarely happens throught out a semester. Chancels are low and no consistency. Senior students are very helpful. You can consult them about any problem or query regarding studies. They will point out a direction to help you solve the issue. But the path is to be travelled by you only.

Admission

Through counselling based on the marks scored in JEE Mains examination in 2017. There are different cut-offs for students residing inside and outside of Punjab. The cut-offs for inside Punjab residing students can get pretty low sometimes making you doubt the standard of the institute. But it's good as soon as you get into the college.

Faculty

3.5

Many teachers are awesome, some are good and some of them don't give a damn. The best of best teachers can even clear your doubt in a minute and it's an amazing experience to learn from them. But many hypocritical teachers are there which just can't tolerate some student opposing them at any cost. World is getting digital but no you still want us copy the experiments from the manual. You make students look down upon you.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
