Remarks

Chance of getting good placements even if we have scored lesser marks in JEE Mains. Thapar has the best coding culture for students, a better study atmosphere. High quality professors, mostly PhDs. Much lesser strictness, like you, can ggo anywhere anytime. Also, the college has its rules regarding main gate time limit(7 pm) and hostel timing (10 pm) but that neither matter to students nor to security guards.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Older course curriculum. Subjects and syllabus have not changed in the past 10-15 years. For academics, only attendance and marks matters, not any other thing. Maintaining 60% attendance is a good practice and 8.5+ CG is a good score for sitting in major product based companies for placements.

Placement Experience

3.5

200+ companies visit every year including large tech giants TCS, Infosys, Microsoft, Amazon, JP Morgan, Capgemini and DeShaw. But the major drawback of the placement cell is that if a good company like Microsoft comes for selection, they select only 1 or 2 students from a batch of 1000 students.

College Events

4.5

The largest cultural feat of Thapar is Saturnalia. A very good name, too much hype for the fest in students of all the 4 years, always suspense of expecting some great acknowledged singer or celebrity from winter, but whom they called --- Zakir Khan ( Sakht launda). They always ruin the hopes of students who eagerly wait hope year for the biggest fest of College. Strongly disappointed.

Campus Life

4

Infrastructure is well equipped. Newly built classes for freshers and a very large library where you can study whole night with no time limit. Hostels for fresher are too older built of the 90s, no air conditioning in hostels of 1st year, for the rest of the years, hostels are fully developed, newly built.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Hostels for 1st year are too old that they are built in the 80s or 90s. Much older infrastructure, an older type of yellow coloured walls. 3 or 4 seater rooms are compulsory for 1st year students. Mess food never cooked tastier. We eat only because we have no other option. Hostels for the rest of the years are newly built. They have the quality infrastructure, single seated as well as 2- seated rooms. Mess food is also good.

Rest everything is good with college, only i have issue with placement, since there are very poor or only core sales job in punjab, college is able to provide that only. You have to work your ass off if you want to get good placement, provided their education quality is good

Placement Experience:

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

NITJ has a placement cell, also known as the Centre of Training and Placements(TPO office of NITJ). The placement scenes differ depending on the courses offered. The average placements are 12-14LPA in the Computer Science branch. Every year, hundreds of companies, including Pvt and govt both. PSUs like HPCL and BPCL recruit students based on merit and academic excellence.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

As i have opted the course B.Pharmacy! I rate the course as optimal, neither too bad nor too good, its medium! Now comes on teaching method, some teachers are really well and good and few are those who does not teaches but only writing writing, thats it, they will not explain at all! And one thing they should change is that All Courses except B.Pharmacy in Chandigarh University have the criteria to pass the student even below the 40% only or the half of the highest number scored by the topper in the class, and for Bpharmacy its minimum requirement to pass the exam is 50%, Oh My God! This needs to be changed, Now every year, in Bpharmacy, the overall 80% students are getting Compartments (Back/Fail) in the subjects, but the University is not understanding it all. So this should be changed as earlier!

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
