Remarks

I would suggest the students to take the admission in this college if they are not getting any good IIT or top NIT. I am sure that they will not go out empty hands while passing out from the college. Yes it's bit expensive but there are various educational loans available which are very easy to get and once you are passed out from the college you can recover the fee you have paid here.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

As far as the course curriculum is concerned it is very fine and various research oriented subjects are there, there is also one experiential learning centre which which organises various events for the students such as disassembly of Honda GX 160 engine or let it be gearbox there are various societies technical societies which are very helpful for overall grooming of a student into a professional. Labs in this college are very good, there is a large mechanical workshop which involves various kind of Machines such as lathe, shaper, CNC, welding etc.

Placement Experience

4.5

I think the placements for computer science department are very good and in Mechanical also the placements in core companies are really good many companies such as Maruti Honda, Thermax visit the campus and recruit students for GET profiles. Yes for mechanical students 6th semester is allotted for the project semester for gaining the industrial experience. various companies such as Tata motors, Hero, LG visit the campus for recruiting the students for internships. I have been selected through the campus drive of internship in LG Electronics and I have done good projects in the internship and have gained a good exposure to the industry as well. Yes institute has taken various steps in the past years for preparing the students well for the placements. Centre for training and development has been inaugurated recently for preparing the students in advance for group discussions personal interviews and aptitude test for the placements.

College Events

4.5

When it comes to the college events thapar is very good in organising the events such as Saturnalia, Mudra, Thaparlympics, and various other sports events also. There are cultural societies also such as Virsa, NOX, Mudra, Saturnalia. These societies organises the events. Many students from nearby colleges come to attend the cultural events and fests. On an average there are around 3-4 events in a week for sure. So there is a very good culture in thapar for organising the events for students.

Fee Structure And Facilities

When it come to the fee, Thapar is little bit expensive but according to me it gives the value for money. The fee is around Rs 1.6 lacs per semester. Hostel and mess fee is separate. The infrastructure of the hostels is of world class. Hostel are really in very good condition. There are separate gyms in the hostel and a common swimming pool, various basketball courts, Table tennis, Cricket ground and badminton court also. So everything is included in the fees. yes college provides transparency in the fee breakdown. It includes tuition fee, societies, hostel fee, mess fee, sports activities fee. While filling the form for admission they charged Rs 1200 per form.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes various type of scholarship available for the students such as merit scholarships which provide full tuition fee waive off. And also their the scholarship according to the semester wise performance of students in the examination. So yes if one is deserving then, will definitely get a scholarship.

Campus Life

5

I have already said that the labs are very good, equipments are working fine and they are in very good condition, there are various sports facilities such as cricket, basketball, football, table tennis, lawn tennis, badminton courts. Technical staff in the lab is also very helping they also try to clear your doubt. Gender ratio in the college is also fine. there is no discrimination on the basis of race, cast and and no type of politics is there. Students are very understanding they help each other in the best possible manner. To kill the free time students can involve themselves in various societies which will help them to groom themselves in in some of the most required qualities.

Hostel Facilities

4

Actually I am a day scholar, I have not opted for the hostel but many of my friends are staying in the hostel and they say that hostels are very in very good conditions and they are of world class infrastructure. A lot of enjoyment is there in the hostels. Mess food is also average it's better than most of the colleges.

Alumni/Alumna

Seniors of this college are the best part they help you in every each and every aspect there are various societies in which the senior guides students and you can contact them anytime they will definitely try to to solve your query and answer it.There is no ragging at all in our college. There is a very good alumni network as this is a very old Institute so this alumni network helps to bring the companies for campus placements. A lot of guest lectures by alumi are there for guiding students for the future.

Admission

I got the admission in this college through my JEE mains score. During my time at least 60% in in 12th boards are needed to get admission in this college. There were two options first is either you are having more than 72 marks in JEE mains and more than 60% marks in 12th boards and the second one is 60 marks in JEE mains and more than 80% marks in 12th boards. There were different cutoff of JEE mains marks for different branches such as computer science, mechanical, electronics.

Faculty

3.5

According to me faculty is very good and they try to teach the students in the best possible manner whether it's through the electronic media for its through the practical experiments. Obviously some exceptions are always there but most of the teachers try their best to teach or to give the best knowledge which they are having to the students. Yes there is a proper 6 months project semester provided to the mechanical students for getting the industry experience, various companies are visiting in the fifth semester as well for selecting students for the internship for 6th semester.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
