Remarks

The admission process for Thapar Institute is very simple :- 1. You have to fill an online form which opens in April. 2. Cost of this form is 1500 INR. 3. You have to fill in the personal details . 4. After filling all the personal details you have to fill in educational details. 5. After that you have to select for a stream that is on preferrence bases, you have to fill in the seats based on your choice. 6. The course you are willing to do should be given a higher preferrance, 1 being the highest. 7. After that 4 cut-off lists are released. 8. As soon as you pass the cutoff for a seat that seat becomes open to you . 9. Then you have to lock in the seat and have to pay the semester fees and the registeration fees that have to be paid by a demand draft that has to be delivered by hand to the institute.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course scheme of Computer Engineering is set by ABET i.e. Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The course scheme is very advanced and cover all the topics from an engineering POV on an international basis. The faculty is very well educated and has a good reputation in Research and Development fields across country. There is a fault from the management side that sometimes a teacher with a less knowlwdge of the subject is assigned the subject and that sometimes causes the problem. All the faculty is not the same , some are very lenient and some are very strict , its on your luck that what kind of teacher you get.

Internships Opportunities

5

More than 100 companies visit colleges every year for internships. The average stipend given by a company is around 10-20k. Most of these are summer internships. All the internships are project-based and also give PPO to the students. Some of the times the college professors also call in students for a project in summer and it acts as a summer internship but no stipend is given but a lot of learning happens in a very small time.

Placement Experience

5

TIET has one of the best placement Cells in north India. The placement cell is very active and the college has a good reputation in the industry most of the companies come to college by themselves. More than 100 companies visit the campus. Students are placed in companies like DE Shaw, Arcesium , JP Morgan, BlackRock, TCS, Deloitte, Accenture, and many more. Thapar holds a 90%+ placement record every year. This year's highest package was offered by Google - 45 LPA. Follwed by DE Shaw - 43 LPA. The average package is 7-10 LPA.

Fees and Financial Aid

Thapar Institute is one of the most expensive colleges in the country. The cost I paid in semester 1 was around 1.56 lacs as tution fees and the hostel cost was around 40 thousand including mess fees. The fees hike is 10% per year and as your year goes up the cost of hostels also increases coming upto 60 thousand per semester. The total fees for the course is around 16-20 lacs. This cost also varies from course to course. Scholarship Scheme:- 1. You can get a scholarship once you apply to the college, for that there are 3 categories:- a. You have 95% or higher in board exams you get 100% scholarship on tution fees. b. You have 90% or higher in board exams you get 75% scholarship on tution fees. c. You have 85% or higher in board exams you get a 50% scholarship on tution fees. 2. All the students who are in top 10% of their course strength get a scholarship of 50 % on tution fees. 3. The students who are position holders in their course also get cash prizes.

Campus Life

5

TIET is house to one of the best campuses in the country, modern architecture with A-class technology. Some of the Infrastructural Marvels are:- 1. Open Air Theatre 2. Biggest Library in North India - Nava Nalanda Central Library 3. Learning Theatres and Learning Pods 4. 12 AC Hostels 5. More than 8 Cafeterias, 12 Restaurants, 6 Food Kiosks, Grocery Stores and many more. 6. 24 hour Security Surveillance. 7. Projector Classrooms. 8. Flood Light Led Football ground. 9. Professional Athletic Track Almost all the latest books are available in the library, and the books that are not available in paperback are available in PDF format. There are annual fests like Saturnalia, Thapar Food Festival, Izhaar, Mudra Night, NOX Night, Virsaa and many more.

Hostel Facilities

5

Hostels are pretty decent, They are clean have proper sanitation and water supply. Like it said nothing is perfect there are some flaws that are there in the rooms but most of them are dealt with on a daily basis by a CMS-Complaint Management System. There are Wardens, Caretakers and cleaners for all the help to the students. The food quality in mess is not consistent some times you get amazing food sometimes you cant even eat it. There is GYM in all the hostels. The rent of AC rooms is higher than NON Ac rooms but the cost difference is not much. The registration for hostels in the first year is on the spot at the time of councelling but for the following years, you have to do it online on a portal from college. Rooms have Fan, Table, Chair, Study Light, Almirah, AC, and some kind of rack of shelf for keeping things.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
