Remarks

The admission process was very simple and straightforward at Thapar. I'd filled the registration forms for Thapar, SRM, and VIT with my CBSE scores as due to pandemics these universities were offering seats on the basis of the class 12th scores. I didn't select SRM and VIT because they were too far away as compared to THAPAR and moreover I was getting a course of my choice i.e. computer engineering at THAPAR so it seemed reasonable to take admission. I am a resident of Punjab so I secured a seat under the Punjab Quota. I was informed via mail and text message regarding confirmation of my seat and had to pay my fees for the first semester within 5 days to secure my admission. Under the Punjab quota, the minimum marks for admission were 88% in CBSE and the percentage was considerably higher for students outside Punjab.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

I always wanted to pursue computer engineering as I love exploring new things and this was something that had caught my eye since class 11. The subjects offered aligned my interests and hence I took the course. The faculty-student ratio in Thapar is 17.68. The teachers can be contacted through mail as well as their contact numbers and are very responsive to our doubts. All the facilities teaching us have done Ph.D. in their subjects and are very well versed and experienced. Exams were not very tough to pass. If a student had attentively studied in the classes and had gone through the assignments provided by the college scoring good marks is very easy. We are given a short 5 to 6 days break before our exams for preparation and there was a time span of almost 45 days between final exams and mid-term exams.

Internships Opportunities

5

Companies visiting Thapar for internships include many big names such as Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, CarDekho, Wipro, IBM, Grofers, and many others. The pay offered for these internships can vary between 100k to 30k per month depending on your stream and skills. Many companies end up hiring the students too so it is safe to say that students try their best to land with the best opportunity. There are many roles offered such as web developers, analyst and consultant, software engineer, product management, and many others.

Placement Experience

5

Students become eligible for campus placements after the 5th semester. There are around 260+ companies visiting the campus and the highest package was for 41 LPA with the average package being 8 LPA. Around 990+ offers were made and 970+ students were placed during the campus placements. Our recruiters include Microsoft, reliance, Samsung, Wipro amongst other names.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are various scholarships offered to studious students as well as those who are financially unable to support their studies. The cost for pursuing computer engineering is around 20 lakhs for 4 years which can be a little pricey as compared to other institutes but with all the world-class facilities, it is all worth it. I am a first-year student so I don't have any scholarship as such but students who are able to be in the top 10% of the class are rewarded with a full 100% waiver on their tuition fees.

Campus Life

5

Life at the campus at Thapar is very exciting. We've got 250 acres to explore with beautiful hostels and a world-class library. The facilities provided and the infrastructure is very modern and developed. There are over 40 societies at the campus run by students which conduct events and fests throughout the year. Saturnalia, as a fest at our university, is a 4-month long fest filled with pure joy. Our library is a multi-story library and has more than one lakh books available. It is open 24/7 for students and has subscribed to ten thousand plus journals. Classrooms are well equipped with a seating arrangement for more than 200 students per class and well ventilated. They have good wifi connections all over the campus.

Hostel Facilities

5

Every room in the hostel has a study table, an almirah, a bed, and a rack for each student. It also has windows and a balcony attached to the room. There is an option for attached washroom and shared washroom and rooms with ac and without ac. The menu is very diverse and nutritional and has salad, curd, and pickle during all three meals. All the floors have 2 common rooms with sofa and television sets. Also, two water dispensers are attached to all floors. The washrooms are very clean and the maid comes every day to clean your room. The surroundings are very clean and peaceful and there is a lot of greenery. The registration process is very easy and involved filling a form or two. It cost me about 30000 for 3 months for mess and hostel charges which are very much justified because there are so many facilities available. We have our own canteen apart from the mess which serves fresh fruits and other items.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
