Remarks

I applied for various colleges like VIT, Vellore, NIT Jalandhar, also some private universities like BITS Pilani but didn't get my preferred branch that is computer engineering so I joined Thapar university. No, I didn't avail any quota for admission. I got admission based on the 12th board examination marks as that was the criteria and minimum marks were 93 for the COE stream. Due to the covid admission process was in online mode so all the counseling sessions were held online.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I choose this course because this has many job opportunities in the future and also has an interest in coding. Thapar has a 1:100 faculty: student ratio. Every faculty member has a minimum master's degree but many also have a PHD level degree in various fields. Exams are held after a period of 5-6 months and their difficulty level is an average one.

Internships Opportunities

4

Many big companies like Flipkart, Delloite, Sandisk, TT, Paytm, etc come each year in summer and selects students for internships for a period of 6-8 months. Students get internships at the end of the second year or in the mid of the third year. Projects that are done by students in these internships help them to enhance thier skills and to build up their resume to a greater level which helps them in the future.

Placement Experience

4.5

From 6-7 semesters onwards, students are eligible for campus placements and can apply for the same. Over 200+ companies visit thapar each year which picks students according to thier skills and needs. These companies include Google, Amazon, DE Shaw, Microsoft, Arcesium, and many more. Higest package each year goes 45 lakhs approx and the average goes around 8-9 lakhs. 95% of Students get placed from Thapar each year which is really a good rate. My current plans are a getting a web developer job after completing my degree.

Fees and Financial Aid

Thapar is a little expensive than other colleges. Around 25 lakhs is the fee for a full 4 year B.E course which includes hostel fees as well. Thara provides all the scholarships which are approved by the government and also provide a merit-based scholarship and also provide an educational loan to students.

Campus Life

5

Thapar conducts many festivals like at the starting of the college you get too experience a frosh week followed by an annual fest and a big food festival as well also many technical fests are held on a regular basis. Thapar a big library which has over 40000+ ebooks and 60000+ books and hundreds of journals which you can read whenever you want. Classroom are fully ac equipped with modern facilities and digital technology alongside a good music system with a strength of 250 students in one classroom. Thapar has every sport ground be it a indoor like badminton aur table tennis or an outdoor like lawn tennis basketball cricket net. etc. Each hostel is equipped with a gym also. Thapar has a large number of social groups or socities run by students such as CCS, Mudra,MLSC,Owasp etc. alongside many other nontechnical workshops as well.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostels are well equipped with AC's and attached washrooms there are 5-6 hostels only for boys and 3-4 for girls. Meal served here is of all types of nutritious and Chinese as well which students can have according to their need. Registraion for hostel and payment all things are done online on thapar's official website which really is secure and has a good interface. There are a large number of pg and rooms are available outside thapar which you can rent on cheaper rates but they are not of good quality as thapar's hostels.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
