Remarks

After class 12th I wanted to do Geography Honours so I made a list of colleges in Delhi University that provide this course. After researching about them Shaheed Bhagat Singh Evening College became my top priority. I got 92% in class 12th. The admission to this college is given based on the highest four(including the subject in which you want to pursue your course+one core language subject). At the time of admission, I was eligible for admission in the first cut-off but due to some problems, I was unable to go to college for the admission process so I went there in the second cut-off. But here's the catch, if you are eligible in the first cutoff but you miss it and you try for a second attempt then they will give you admission on the last day of the second cut-off. Firstly they'll give admission to those who are eligible in the second cut-off but were not eligible in the first cut-off. I had to face this. 1% relaxation is given to girl students in the cutoff.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Geography was my favourite subject since school time. Moreover, unlike history i never found it boring because it has practicals to do. If you join this college one thing is sure, you'll enjoy more than any other course. The faculty is great. Very talented and qualified.. Especially the senior faculty. You'll study your practical subjects like Remote sensing and GIS in laboratory. College provide laptops to those who can't afford to buy one but on your own responsibility. Otherwise, there are computers in laboratory too.The educational trips in second and third year of college makes this course much more interesting. Our batch was divided into two sections A and B, each having 40-45 students. The materials for practicals is provided from the lab. You'll learn a lot of things while completing these practicals. A completely different experience. Exams are conducted in a proper and fairway. We never faced any issue of timings and mismanagement during exam time.

Fees and Financial Aid

I belong to a middle-class family and studying at this college was very economical for me. The fees range from 6,000-7,000 per year plus 800-1400 rupees examination fees. And you don't have to buy any material from outside, the college will provide you with everything for practicals. My friend did the same course from Dayal Singh College where(acc to him) his fees were 14,000 rupees per year. The scholarship is also provided to students belonging to the Economically Weaker Section under National Scholarship Scheme.

Campus Life

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Being brutally honest I don't think that the course contributes a lot to our preparation for the real world but it teaches us very new things which I like. The course might not be very helpful in our real life preparation or the preparation for the real world but at the same time it enhances our knowledge and teachers as about various new things so I am satisfied with my course and whatever the curriculum includes I like it

In term of relevance I'll say that there are many topics which should not be taught as they are way too old and contradicting in modern times. New tumes problems and solutions should be taught in replace focusing on present.

Placement Experience:

Final year students are generally placed with an average package of 7-8 lakhs for management programs. Companies including the big 4 like EY, KPMG, Deloitte and other reputed companies have visited and many offers have been made. Around 60% of the students get placed in management branch. After getting the degree, I am also planning to appear in the placement opportunities.
