EARTH SCIENCE AT PONDICHERRY UNIVERSITY

Pondicherry University will conduct an entrance exam every year usually happens in the months of April-June (Pre covid). Students who are willing to pursue an Integrated MSc. In applied geology in 3+2 years can appear for the exam. There will be an application fee. People who scored above cutoff marks will be notified through a PROVISIONAL RANK LIST published on University itself. Eligible candidates according to the list will have to attend counselling day arranged at the campus itself. People who are in the primary list in each reserved and unreserved category willing to take admission on applied geology fills the seats. If anyone in the primary selected candidate is absent/not willing/opting for another course, then candidates on the waiting list who present on counselling will be considered for filling seats. Original documents including High school, Higher secondary,Transfer and Conduct certificate must be produced infront of authority. Fee payment maybe online/offline.

Enough faculties are ranking from Professor, Associate professor, Assistant professors and some Postdoctoral fellows. Most of them are qualified and highly trained from renowned institutions like IITs, Central Universities, GSI, National Institute of Oceanography etc. Department of Earth sciences is a three storied complex with more than 10 classrooms, many labs and a seminar hall. Teachers are very punctual in their portions and students are welcome towards doubt clearing and academic instructions with any faculty. Internals are conducted twice every semester and term exams are at the end of semesters. Usually, results of term exams will be out within 10-15 days on the SAMS(students academic management system) website.

Campus placements in the department of Earth sciences are not so common in the last few years, But many of our alumni are placed in campus interviews in various companies including ONGC, GSI etc. Currently, I am willing to appear for exams like GATE, UPSC GEOLOGIST & BARC once I complete my course.

Odd semesters are charged about 7980 which include tution fees, library, recreation, cuation deposit and a sports fees. Even semesters are charged with an amount of 2000. The fee structure is a bit high compared to some of the central universities, but I promise the campus is worth if you are utilising the academic as well as its extra-curricular facilities excellently. Toppers in the entrance examinations and term papers are awarded with a stipend of 625 per month for 10 months for an academic year.

The campus is very student friendly. As a college incorporating students from various Indian states and international students, the socio-cultural life will be very enjoyable. A hostel day will be conducted annually, which is an open stage cultural and dining messes will have an attractive menu of food. The library along with a common RH is fully airconditioned and open from 9.00 AM to 11.55 AM. Thousands of valuable books, journals and newspapers are freely accessible for anyone with a valid ID card. A centralised Wifi facility in the reading hall will provide 'free of cost access to many of the PAID/PREMIUM academic resources. Each classroom has projectors, a green board, a whiteboard and scanners. Classes are very refreshing and are with enough air and lighting supply. University campuses have a Wide cricket stadium, Football ground, Volleyball court, Basketball court, Futsal ground and an indoor stadium is under construction. There are various groups run by students in the various socio-cultural sector.

More than 12 Men's hostels and 10 women's hostels are there inside the campus. Each hostel room for UG and PG students will be accommodated with 3 students. Hostel fees + food will cost about 19599 for an academic year. I will rate hostel food 7.7/10. It provides meals 3 times a day and an evening tea. There will be 3 non-veg. meals per week. Hostels are registered offline from the chief wardens of the hostel's offices. Hostels will have a security guard all time but there are no time restrictions for students to move in /out of hostels. Centralised Wifi is enabled in hostels. Hot&Cold Drinking water is available on each floor.
