Remarks

Admission through board numbers of physics chemistry and maths, and jee mains score the application form is present on the college website. Reservation is there, 50 % of seats are reserved for Punjab resistance, and there is also reservation for SC/STs. Application fees and dates are also provided during the admission period on the website. There is no proper management in offline mode by the college; however, there is one society named (frosh) which helps so much during the admission process. Frosh consist of 3&2 year students of Thapar university only. Year after year, Thapar university has introduced new branches related to computers which are declining the quality of computer science and engineering and placements. In my time, there were 30 % of seats reserved for boards, and 70% of seats were reserved for jee mains. Admission always takes place in the auditorium of Thapar University.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose this course because it has a high probability of getting placed and has good placements and internship opportunities. The student ratio is 1:120 in lectures and 1:30 in labs. Lectures are well qualified with a Ph.D. degree, but lab instructors are weak and do not hold proper knowledge about subjects. Most of the exams were held online, so there was not much problem as you could find answers from friends, groups & google. Teachers hardly teach in class. They only read up slides.

Fees and Financial Aid

Thapar University has one of the highest fees in India. Roughly 2000000 is fees for computer science and engineering. There are two banks within campus named SBI and ICICI; both provide loan facilities. There is a scholarship for all students for the top 10 percent of students of a particular branch. There is a 10% increase every year in fees. There is also a scholarship facility for those with a CGPA of more than 9.5. the placement record is perfect for Thapar, with all companies giving a stipend of 50k+ and an average placement CTC of 15lakh +

Campus Life

4

Life at the campus is also pretty decent; there are many social clubs to join, sports and extracurricular activities are also promoted, the library is very good and is an excellent place to collect information and do self-study as well. The library is a very good place and has a huge amount of content available. CSE students' classrooms are fully ac. while other branches' classrooms and buildings are non-ac. all kinds of sports such as cricket, baseball, swimming pool, table tennis, football are available on the Thapar campus. there is literally every society and club for everything a teenager needs. for more info about societies and clubs, you can refer Thapar website.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Hostel rooms are tiny and congested you could choose either for ac & non-ac from 2nd year onwards. In 1st year, you have to live in a non-ac room for everyone. Further, there are eight hostels for boys and two hostels for girls. Hostel allotment is done based on CGPA. Approx fees for hostels are 75000 for six months, and mess fees are 40000-60000 per semester. I wouldn't say I did not like mess food; that's why I ordered food online through Swiggy or Zomato with my friends.

Placement Experience:

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
