Remarks

My admission took place online, I was first given a seat in the ECE branch, later it got updated to the CSE (Dera Bassi ) Branch. The application form can be found on the Thapar website ( thapar.edu ). The reservation is provided for the students of the OBC, SC, ST castes, The student from within Punjab can avail a certain cut off which can change per year given the number of the students and their JEE scores. The offline admission process can be improved by making certain good arrangements regarding the auditorium, where there seemed a bit of chaos, plus the people who were managing the parents and their wards were none other than Thapar 2nd year students themselves. So I think this ought to be done by some professionals, to avoid some chaotic moments during the offline admission process.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

All the TAs are PHDs or doing PHDs, all lecturers are well - qualified and explain the concepts well enough to the students. Ratio is 1:30 (faculty:student ) Sometimes the faculty members teach mainly from the students, so students have to study themselves, and they can also ask doubts from the faculty members by whats app or mailing them. There are 2 term exams are MSTS and ESTS, MSTs carry 30% weightage, ESTs are comparatively difficult and hold 60% weightage and the rest weightage goes to lab evaluations and sessionals.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

Companies like ION, Optum, adobe, JP morgan, De shaw, have come and provided internship opportunities to the students. the average stipend is above 50000. In the 8th semester students can either opt to go for the internship in the companies they get placed or they can opt for a project semester, and go for their own startups, Students can focus well don't their careers and much help is provided by the teachers. Once placed in a certain company you cannot appear in the interview of any other company, so we have to be very selective of the company you want to get placed into.

Placement Experience

4.5

The highest package ranges from 40 to 44 lakh and avg. package of CSE branch ranges from 14LPA to 16 LPA. Almost more than 80% of my seniors have been placed in the 4th year of the CSE branch. Companies such ion, Microsoft, DE shaw, Optum, etc have visited this year for placement and internship opportunities. on campus internship opportunities start from 4 the year and placement opportunities start from 3rd year. My plan after getting a degree is to work in a product based company and later opt for a higher degree abroad.

Fees and Financial Aid

Thapar is one of the most expensive colleges in India, The fees is 2 lakh per semester. They also charge 30k development fees , which seems very unnecessary and is not charges in other colleges. Some subjects seem tough to me, and also unnecessary for my field, but overall I am satisfied with the learning I get from college. Scholarships are provided to student s with a high CGPA like above 9.5. Their are many scholarship tests and opportunities one can avail in Thapar. The fees get reduced by a certain percentage.

Campus Life

4.5

Campus life is very Good, We have a swimming pool, a market area, which provides all the facilities, and we have 2 banks ICIC, SBI. We have a large library which is quite famous and has been previously used in some of the movie scenes. Classrooms are very professionals, everything is taken care of, like cleanliness. Almost all the sports activities take place on campus. There are 8 hostels of boys and 2 hostels of girls. There is a dispensary available and ambulance service is provided 24 hours.

Hostel Facilities

4

The hostel Facility is excellent. Rooms are well spaced, they provide good food, and also charge a hefty amount of money. Overall the experience is quite well, study tables, chairs, beds, mattresses, are provided, electricity and water services are good. The hostel Registration process usually takes place through the webkiosk of Thapar, in online mode, My hostel was L hostel it was quite close to the academic building, although it was small compared to the other hostel but it did provide all the excellent facilities, also the rooms were cleaned every day.

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
