Remarks
The admission process was quite straightforward. During my admission i.e. 2020, due to covid some of the criteria were changed although the overall procedure was almost similar. 30% of students were admitted through JEE rank and 70% through boards ( JEE rank was used to resolve ties). The application form, fees, and deadlines were all available on the college website. The payment and other paperwork were done in online mode so the entire procedure was very easy and smooth so I have no complaints regarding it.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Computer Science and Engineering because I was always interested in programming. The teacher-student ratio is around 1:20 approx. The faculty is quite good in terms of qualification as most of them have a Ph.D. in the field they are currently teaching. Exams here are just like any other college in terms of quantity, roughly 40-50 tests/sessionals/viva in each semester which is fairly easy to pass.
Internships Opportunities
For internships students are eligible to apply for on campus internships from 6th semester that is the beginning of third year, many companies like JP morgan co and arcesium offer stipends of more than 50k and only some companies put a cutoff on CGPA.
Placement Experience
Placements are up to the mark, students are eligible for on-campus internships from the 6th semester onwards that is the 3rd year, and for placements in the 4th year that is the 7th semester. big companies like Microsoft, Samsung, tomato, apple, etc have recruited students from here before and offer above-average packages,
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees when it comes to Thapar are quite high and with a hike of roughly 10%, each year becomes difficult for many students to afford. The total fees if one includes mess/hostel and miscellaneous expenses can reach around 20 lakhs for 4 years easily and even higher if someone says fails a semester. There are scholarship opportunities too but it doesn't affect the net fees by a lot.
Campus Life
Campus life is very exciting and extravagant. There are a lot of clubs/societies in Thapar so one can expect 4-5 events each month. There are enough sports facilities to support football, cricket, swimming, table tennis, lawn tennis, etc.
Hostel Facilities
Being a private college and such high fees one can expect a high-quality infrastructure and Thapar meets the expectations. With state-of-the-art modern hostels, each with their mess and all facilities like gym, etc students have no complaints other than wifi being slow at times.
Other Applied Colleges
BITS GOA | ECE
Was slightly more expensive and I wanted CSE
