Remarks

All the admission are done by students of my College which makes the job of our faculty very easy. The eligibility criteria are:- 1) Jee mains & Jee advance percentile I) within Punjab- if you are a resident of Punjab you get a preference over non-resident of Punjab II) outside Punjab 2) 12th board percentage I) within Punjab II) outside Punjab For admission you have to go to Google and search Thapar.edu It is their official website where you can find registration, admission form, benefits for reservation, etc. If you are selected in the college you will receive messages on the mobile number you have given in the form. Admission improvement:- It takes a lot of time for the wait to get an admission letter. I just suggest providing more people to put in to provide admission letters.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose core Mechanical Engineering. There are 2 mechanical engineering courses in my College, one is core Mechanical Engineering second in Mechanical Production. There are different branches and in these different branches, the number of facility members are different. All the facility members are well experienced and some are Ph.D. holders. There are 250 students in the Mechanical Engineering branch and the teachers are around 30-40 in the Mechanical Engineering department. The teachers are very good. They discuss everything in detail during lectures. Every teacher has specialization in different courses and are a master of it. Teacher clear the doubt properly if required within the class time or if you go and ask him personally in his/her office room. Different courses coordinator has different levels of putting the exam paper, sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's moderate, and sometimes hard. If you don't study for an exam you will fail in a particular subject.

Internships Opportunities

4

There were many companies that offered internships in 2022 in Thapar college it's about 20 companies that came to pick up students to provide with internships. Companies like - Honda, Sonalika, Punjab Tractor limited, Trident, Tata, L&Tetc came with internship offers in different areas of their companies. Different companies provides with different stipend most common is 20000. Some companies don't provide with stipend even. Some provide around 50000. There are research-related internships even provided by are colleges in different colleges like IIT even with or without stipend. The major outcome of the internship is that students get to know about the industry. How they work, what they are required to do, and for more knowledge.

Placement Experience

4

For placement, many famous companies come to pick up students' companies like Tata Motors, Maruti, Sonalika, Trident, Eicher, Anand group, Ford, Hero, etc., Comes for the palcement opportunity. After completion of 4 years and 8 semesters, students are given degrees and are offered placement. The average package of students here is around 8 lakhs per annum and the highest package received by one student is 44 lakhs per annum everything depends on cgpa , higher cgpa higher the package value. Students about 80-85% are being placed in the college.

Fees and Financial Aid

Cost of Thapar institute of engineering technology is very high it's around 1 lakh 79 thousand only which is very high for middle class genral category student. Fee Structure is: Development fee-55000 Examination fee-2000 Tution fee- 114100 Medical fee and insurance charges-400 Students activity and welfare charges-7500 There is a scholarship test for 1 St and 2 nd year students to premote there branches and get scholarship that is a scholarship test. Students with high cgpa in these semester also gets a chance to premote in upper branch. There is accounts department which is open from 8 am to 5 pm every Monday to Saturday and is always available to help students with any financial query, students can contact them. There were almost 20 companies that came for internship for 2022 but I was unlucky to get any. College offers 3 types of internship opportunities: 1) from the college 2) on your own 3) project sem need to do research under a professor and take 3 subjects within the college.

Campus Life

4

There is Market within the campus from you can buy any stationary, food, mobile repair and any room required stuff. There are many fest conducted buy different societies. There are around 70 different society. There are many societies in which students can enroll in fist and second year. These societies do food events, bringing standup comedians in the college, etc. All the books related to your course are available in the library even some are available online. There are some sports-related societies that conduct sports events in which everyone can participate and some are selected for the team. There are some sports like football, badminton, chess, swimming, cricket, running, basketball, etc available on the campus. The most common websites for students are: Webkiosk over here you can find marks fee details etc. Myherupa is a site that is created by seniors and provides you with material related to the course, it has solved tutorial sheets also.

Hostel Facilities

4

The cost of a hostel within the campus for a year is also high. Items that you get within the room are bedbbox, cupboard, study table, shoe rack, bathroom if attached with geyser and washbasin, and a bathing area. Sometimes you have to buy the matrix, some hostels aren't having a matrix in them. In mess you get different food on different days in every week. Mess is fixed for 2 hrs for breakfast lunch dinner. You get different food on Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday and Sunday which is fixed by the hostel mess in charge. Quality is good in comparison to other colleges' mess. Registration of hostel is done during admission enrollment, you are provided with some options and therefore you get the hostel. If you don't want to live in a campus hostel you can buy a rented room near the back gate of our campus which is reasonable and is also having good quality food.

The average placements are 12-14LPA in the Computer Science branch. Every year, hundreds of companies, including Pvt and govt both. PSUs like HPCL and BPCL recruit students based on merit and academic excellence.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
