Remarks

As every engineering student desires to be in the most prestigious institutions like IITs and NITs of the country, I had also wished for the same. And when I got the chance to study in NIT Kurukshetra, one of the great Nits of India, I grabbed the chance ASAP.

Entrance Preview

I got the Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering there because of my rank in the JEE Mains entrance exam which was 25,000. Although the cut-off was high in Round 1 of the JoSSA counseling, I waited for further rounds of counseling and finally got the seat in the Third Round of the counseling.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The mechanical engineering course curriculum was quite vast and consisted of topics like System of Forces and Structure Mechanics, Trusses, Properties of Kinematics and Kinetics of rigid bodies, Friction and Vibrations, Boilers and Internal Combustion Engines, IC engines, Hooke’s Law of elasticity, Stress, and Strain, Relation between elastic constants and how they could be used in machines and their functionalities.

Internships Opportunities

4

The internship cell of the college invited companies to the college where they visited the campus for the training drive and shortlisted students like me according to their requirements and offered internships directly to me for the intended period.

Placement Experience

4.5

The placement panel of the college had organized several companies visit at the college annually as a central activity to help students like me to get placed in esteemed companies at various sought-after posts. The prominent recruiters were Accenture, Bloomberg, Afcons, Godrej, Ashok Leyland, IBM, Samsung, Infosys, Reliance, JP Morgan Chase, Capgemini, etc.

College Events

4

There were several events at the college namely the Tech Nexus Fest, NIMBUS Technical Festival, Udbhava '16 Students' Convention, Fortieth National Conference on Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power, Hill, etc. The Hill affair was the most alluring one as it comprised enthralling dance choreographies, music performances, concerts, dramatics, national-level competitions and numerous other cultural activities.

Fee Structure And Facilities

I had been admitted in the bachelor's degree course of Mechanical engineering whose tenure was for four years which cost me ₹1.5 L per year. These were the basic tuition fees, apart from which I had to pay for other co-curricular activities like for a few events and fests and also my boarding there.

Fees and Financial Aid

I received the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students. The scholarship amount was 12000 Rs. per annum. I was eligible for this very scholarship as I had done my +2 from CBSE Board and had secured 93% in 12th board.

Campus Life

4

The college campus was no less than a Tech and science hotspot. It provided me with multiple experiences be it in the field of studies or life. The experiences I came across there would be with me for life long. The classrooms, labs, libraries, club rooms, etc. were all equipped with great resources and were a great place to spare time.

Hostel Facilities

4

There were separate hostels for boys and girls like any other college. The boys hostel was relatively good and had all basic equipment and safety measures as was needed. Also the warden and other hostel staff were quite cooperative. It was an overall nice experience to be there.

Exam Structure

There were two semesters in each year. Each semester had two internal exams and then a final End Semester Examination. All of them included labs and practical exams as well along with records, assignments, and practical notebooks.

Faculty

4.5

The faculties out there were very skilled mentors. They helped me a lot in discovering my focus areas and increased my likeness to machines. The subject was interesting and the way they presented it to me made it much more interesting.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities at my college are average. A few reputed companies visit the campus each year, but the number of offers and salary packages varies depending on the branch and market conditions. Students who have strong academic performance, technical skills, internships, and good communication skills generally have better chances of getting placed.
