Remarks

Eligibility for courses is based upon Board Percentage and jee mains percentile. The cut-off for my COE was 96% this time. There were 3 rounds of counselling based on Board % and a spot round based on Jee percentile. The application form can be found on Thapar's official website. Reservations are available for SC/ST/OBC ,army etc. The admission process was very easy to follow up on and I got replies to my queries from the official mail pretty quickly.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I wanted to pursue robotics as a career since high school, so I chose mechatronics as my course. This course includes subjects from electronics, mechanical, and computer engineering. The faculty-to-student ratio is about 1 professor for 60-90 students in a class and for tutorial classes 30:1. All the professors here have a minimum qualification of PhD in their subject and tutorial teachers, they are the people who are currently pursuing their PhD at Thapar. The examination system here is pretty easy to understand. We have a mid-semester exam and an end-semester exam both with a 10-15 minute MCQ quiz before the exam. Other than that, we have lab evaluations for our practical subjects. Exams are very easy to pass and are all based on a similar patterns every year.

Internships Opportunities

4

Many Companies like Focus energy, Cisco, American Express, D shaw, and JP Morgan offer 50k+ per month and take students for full-time job offers if they perform well in their internship. Thapar has a very good placement record with more than 90% of students getting placed

Placement Experience

4

we are eligible for campus placements from the 6th semester. Internships for the mechanical branch are held in their 6th semester whereas, for COE and electronics, it is in their 8th semester. Companies like JP Morgan, American Express, D Shaw, and Cisco visit the campus for campus placements every year offering both technical and non-technical jobs to the students. A very high percentage of students get placed every year from all branches, 90% from mechanical and almost 100% from COE. My plan after getting the degree is to pursue my research goals in robotics.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure is semester-wise. The fee is different for every branch and ranges between 1.8 lac to 2.5 lac. There are many opportunities for internships in thapar. There are mainly 2 types of internship, a summer internship (June, or July) and the internship semester for a full semester of your degree. Scholarships are given on the merit of jee mains and CBSE and further continued based on the CGPA scored by the person in the following semester. Companies like JP Morgan and American express to visit the campus for hiring.

Campus Life

4.5

Fests like Saturnalia are organised every year which bring with them a lot of sponsors. It is one of the biggest food festivals in north India. This fest is usually conducted in the month of August. There is a plethora of books available in the library which is one of the most beautiful places on the campus. Most classrooms have AC fitted in them with projectors and good seats. The sports culture of thapar is very strong with opportunities in almost every sport available here. There are about 50 societies here which give lots of social exposure.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
