Remarks

The admission was done in the corona times. So the college was talking about admission through the CBSE boards exam. I had a decent percentage of 92.8% and hence got eic at Thapar in spot round and later upgraded through an internal university exam in ECE. Thapar usually takes students by jee mains percentage, giving special privileges to students residing in Punjab. If u have a percentile above 90, u can get a decent branch at Thapar. You can find the admission letters on their website and also all the important admission dates. Thapar also takes an exam which is shared later after jee mains admission.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

I have a decent course curriculum with most of my core subjects and some computer-based subjects. These subjects are properly scheduled such that the computer subjects which are asked by placement companies are taught later in the last semesters. I choose this course because this was the best branch I could get on my marks. If u are interested in coding, try to get computer branches, u can also get computer mixed branches such as electrical and computer as well as electronics and computer. The student ratio is balanced in all branches. In computer may be u will get a 50-50 ratio but as you go lower such as in mechanical, you will get a 90-10 boys and girls ratio. The faculty is all good and you get qualified and experienced teachers mainly in all subjects. We get 2 main exams in a semester which are mid-sem and end-sem. These are not so difficult to pass. An average student can pass them even if he/she studies a day before.

Internships Opportunities

3

I am in a pre-final year or the 5th sem in my college and around about 10 companies have come to provide internship opportunities and 20 students got placed by now at an average of 1 lakh CTC per month. Big companies like DE SHAW had provided with internship offers. More likely to say, internship opportunities are provided till the 7th sem and around about 60 % of students avail good offers at an average of 27k per month. Also, many students work here on projects under college professors and get publish their research papers to get good offers later or go into research. Also, companies here make a CG cut of about 8 to sit in their placement or internship offers.

Placement Experience

3.5

Our college arranges an interview for final year students of all branches. About 80-90% of students get placed in our college at an average of about 8 lakh per annum. Although the average of computer branches is greater being about 11 or 12 lakh per annum. The students also saw an increasing trend for placements in the past three years. The companies start coming for internship offers in the 5th sem itself and for placement offers in the 7th sem. Most students get placed by the 8th sem itself. Last year about 350 companies visited our campus and around 1500 students got placed. The highest package of about 40lakh was offered to a student whereabout average remained between around 11 lakh. The stats of thapar showed about 80-90% of students get placed with different job profiles. The companies like HCL, ACCENTURE, IBM, and HERO came to recruit students in Thapar. My plans as for now are to get placed at a good package in a company and after that work for 2 years and later pursue an MTech degree.

Fees and Financial Aid

Thapar being a private college is somewhat expensive. It has different fees for every branch that goes around 1.5 lacs per semester and also another 50k for hostels ans mess. The fees increases every year by a 5 to 10% and there is no special previlage for any students in term of fees. At the start of college you need to be a good jee ranker to get a scholarship and later need to come in top 10% of every branch to avail a scholarship every year. The college may have a high fees amount than the other college but the placement offer it provides in comparision to other private colleges is very good. The computer branch here at thapar has to pay around 1.7 lacs per semester but they also get good job offers, maximum being around 40 lacs and average being aroung 10 lacs. At thapar if you are a good student who has maintained his/her cg above 7.5 can get a good annual package above 6 lacs easily.

Campus Life

4

Thapar has a positive environment where students have fun, and talk about relevant issues and every student is heard without judgment. Students bounce back and forth to class, mess, and other activities. It takes some time to get used to this life, but later all students appreciate the freedom they have to manage their own time. Thapar organizes around 2-3 big fests every year, like the Thapar food fest where students enjoy different food from different places and enjoy the dance and other musical and comedy shows. Thapar has different societies that showcase different cultures, being a technical society or any other cultural society, they all conduct different programs all over the year. Our college has a big library having about 1 lack books covering from journals to e-books. The library is housed in a centrally air-conditioned space of about 25000 square feet and 3 floors. Other than regular books it has over ten thousand journals and thousands of fiction and comic books.

Hostel Facilities

4

The institute has 17 hostels making a total accommodation for boys around 4500 and girls around 1800. The hostels are provided with all basic facilities including water coolers with water purifiers, a common gym, AC, and reading rooms in some hostels. Each room is fully furnished with a study table, chair, almirah, shoe rack, dustbin, geyser, ac, and curtains. There are different hostels some being single-seater while others are 2 seaters and even with either shared or common washrooms. Hostels also have mess facilities backed up by a private company SODEXO. The food quality is undoubtedly good and we get all types of food every day of the week, either panner, eggs, milk, dal, and even uttapam and sambar. The mess also has an evening and night mess service to avail food at reasonable prices. At the start of college, hostels are provided based on scores, and students of the same hostels can choose their room partners and later are given their CG scores.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
