Remarks

The admission process was all online and happened through the CBSE result and jee mains result. The university also provides many opportunities to upgrade your branch and the cut-off for the computer science branch was 95.67 percent during my admission. The form for application form was detailed and it can be easily found on the website of Thapar along with other details like the last date for submission and application fees. There were around 800 seats in my branch so to get a decent seat in Thapar one must get around 95 percentile in jee or 95%+ marks in CBSE exams

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The reason behind choosing computer engineering was because it has very much scope in the future and the faculty here are all qualified. Most of the faculty have completed their PhDs and are approachable to their students. The course curriculum is good and they provide a huge range of interesting electives that a student can decide from. There is a good faculty-student ratio of 1:18 and they guide the students throughout the semester. The exams are held twice in a semester with an internal before each exam. The exams are moderately difficult and the students who study for them can pass easily.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

Many companies offer internships at this university. Companies like Microsoft give around? 125000 per month as a stipend internship and then offer then? 5500000 as a ctc job. The roles they provide are junior software engineers, etc. Thapar recently made a satellite for the Punjab government so that it could track the weather of Punjab by moving in the lower orbit of the earth. The team who made this satellite consisted of 25 students and 4 professors and their satellite would launch shortly

Placement Experience

5

One can sit for the college placements in any year provided they have the necessary skills for that but most of the students apply for them after their 6th semester though many apply in the 5th semester too as they get an internship as well as a job offer. Recently Microsoft offered a package of? 52,00,000 per annum in the college and many more like Maruti Suzuki, Amazon, MakeMyTrip, etc upto 200 companies offer seats for students here. With the highest package of Microsoft of? 52,00,000, the average package is? 10,00,000. My plan after getting my degree is the get into a good company and do the job I took

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees of the university for computer engineering branches around? 2,40,000 per semester and there is a hike of around 9-10% of the fees after each year. The institute provides financial assistance and scholarships to students. The scholarship is given based on jee mains rank and CBSE result for the first year and based on cgpa in the rest of the years and it provides financial assistance to people whose family income is less than 8 lakhs per annum. But there are no campus jobs available at the university.

Campus Life

5

With a huge campus, the social life of students at Thapar is very good. There are more than 50 societies to join and many societies organize numerous events on campus which include standup comedy shows, concerts, and fairs. They also organize hackathons and other tech fests. Usually, all the events start early in a semester but they happen till the end of semester exams. One of the best features on campus is its library. It's a 5 floored building filled with books and chairs and tables for students to sit and do their work. Every type of book is available there and even the library hosts some literary events. The classrooms are well equipped with projectors and speakers so that the faculty could be understood by everyone listening. Thapar has many sports and equipment along with the courts and fields and annually organizes events like inter-year competitions and triathlons.

Hostel Facilities

4

The hostels at the campus are well maintained and are kept clean and hygenic. The rooms are shared by either one student or two students or four students. The size of the rooms is decent and most of them are equipped with AC. The mess in the hostel serves a delicious meal and the quality of the meal is excellent. The menu consists of dals and mixed veggies but also contains food like pasta. The registration process for the hostel is also online and it's easy just to select a hostel from the options provided. The average price for a hostel room per semester is? 50,000 and the mess fees per semester are? 21,000 so in all?75,000 one would get an amazing meal three times a day and a decent room

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
