Remarks

Eligibility is 75% attendance in 10+2 The application form is available on www.thapar.edu Admission was based on a 10+2 PCM percentage and JEE mains score combined. I did not avail of any reservation. Cutoff for COE is usually 98% in PCM 10+2 and 96-97 percentile in JEE mains

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Infrastructure is mind-boggling. Tutorials are held in a group of 25 students and lectures in a group of 200(out of which only 20 attend the lectures). All faculty is a minimum PHd holder. Exams are taken twice a semester. One is MST other is EST

Internships Opportunities

3

The internship is provided to only the top 50-60 COE students. It is a bit tough to get an internship after 3rd year but in 4th year it is quite simple. Many companies including Microsoft, and DE Shaw offer internships.

Placement Experience

4.5

Placements are top-notch. 7th-semester students are eligible for campus placements. Amazon, Microsoft, Google and various PBCs visit for placements. Avg package is 11.92 lakhs. Around 92% of students were placed. Around 500 companies visited this year. I plan for MS after my degree.

Fees and Financial Aid

The total cost, of course, is 20 to 22 lakhs. There is a ten per cent hike in free every year. However, a good number of scholarships are available. You can bag one if you get >9.3 GPA. The name of the scholarship is merit cum means scholarship.

Campus Life

5

The annual fest is Saturnalis which is not that great. The library is huge. Almost every book is available in the library. All amenities you could imagine are available in classrooms. Sports competitions are held from time to time. There are around 52 clubs run by students. You are free to join any.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostels though costly are five-star. Hostel J has the best food. The menu is north Indian. All facilities are provided including laundry in the hostel. We also have a gym and fast wifi connection. A reading room is also available inside the hostel.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
