Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Thapar is one of the Most Prestigious Colleges in North India after IIT and NIT which gives an obvious reason to join the college. For Lectures the Faculty: Student Ratio is 120:1 but for labs, it is 25:1. The Faculty is highly qualified, most of them have Ph. D.s from Tier 1 Colleges in India, and the teaching is convenient just that in B. Tech. you learn more online and less in offline classes, but labs are good wrt to equipment. Exams were not as per schedule due to COVID but now things are going back to normal.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

We have companies approaching for internships, but in the recession scenario the situation was not very good, but most of the students were able to get settled. We also have a Project Semester for students who didn't receive an internship.

Placement Experience

3.5

Thapar is known for its placement, but for the 2023 batch, it was not that well considering the Recession scenario. We have companies such as Accenture, Apple, BCN, BCG, and JP Morgan. It is said if you are in Thapar you will get placed later or sooner.

Fees and Financial Aid

Thapar is on the expensive side as compared to other Tier 1 colleges with the total fees of course around 20L, increasing by 10% annually. There are many scholarships, merit-based being the major one, it starts with year 1 based on JEE and Boards Marks but you need to maintain a particular CGPA to continue with the Scholarship.

Campus Life

4.5

Saturnallia is the annual Techno-Cultural Fest of Thapar, including multiple games, hackathons, and concerts. Apart from it, we have societies having events around the year. Entrepreneurship Development Cell is one of the biggest among them. Thapar is known for the different opportunities provided by students to students. Thapar also has one of the most award-winning libraries in South Asia giving the best of knowledge with the best books.

Admission

There are two modes of admission in Thapar, 10+2(PCM) and JEE Main Scores. With 50% reserved in both the category. The eligibility Includes 60% marks in 10+2, Mandatory to apply for JEE Mains. The application form is available on the admission page of the website - admission.thapar.edu. In 2019, the counseling for 10+2 mode was more in offline mode, but now I believe it is in Online mode.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
