Remarks

The college has a pretty good and strict management. So any person causing trouble will be dealt with in the necessary way.Overall a wonderful college to be a part of.

Entrance Preview

I got into NITK through Joint Entrance Exam(JEE) . My JEE score was 120 . The reason I opted NITK was because it's the best in Karnataka and also it's the dream of many students. I opted Information Technology because Computers and coding have always seemed interesting to me.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The courses are particularly interesting as well as challenging. The courses in the first year are common to all the students. One would be introduced in depth to the branch related courses from second year onwards. The courses in Information technology are really interesting with lot of practicals and projects. Infact most of the subjects have a mini project which would let a person implement the concepts he/she has learnt into a realistic problem.

Internships Opportunities

Yes a lot of companies come to the college to hire interns. Some notable ones are Microsoft,Intuit,Samsung,Visa,Arcesium,Morgan Stanley,Arista Network ,Goldman Sachs, Texas instruments etc. A lot of IT companies visit the campus to hire interns, and there are few mechanical and electrical/electronics related companies compared to IT compaies. The stipend is above ₹25000 and the maximum was ₹100000

Placement Experience

4.5

The placements and job oppurtunities are really good, infact one of the best in Karnataka. There are atleast 2 companies visiting the campus during the months of august and september. Most of the students get a job from the campus placements. The average salary in IT was around 10lpa.

College Events

4

The college has a tech fest called Engineer , cultural fest called Incident and a hostel fest called Crescendo. Apart from these there is a Film Fest . Events like onam, diwali, ganesh chaturthi are also celebrated. There also would be ethnic day and one other competition called Bharat Darshan, where the students from different states compete against each other. The cultural fest Incident is the one to look out for. All the fests are managed by the students from publicty to marketing.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is feasible. But it is most likely to increase to the incoming students every year as the government has asked the institutes to bear some of the expense through the money collected as fee from students. The hostel fee is really cheap.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are a lot of scholarship for meritorious students and also there are some provided by the backward classes department and the sc/st cell. SBI has the lowest interest for students of nit's and iit's in education loans. So SBI can be preferred. SC/ST students can get their laptop expense reimbursed.

Campus Life

3.5

The campus life can be really fun and at the same time tiring also as the campus is huge. The campus has it's own beach and there are a lot of tourist places nearby.Weekends can be effectively used by going to treks or trips to nearby places. The gender ratio is pretty poor. In IT its about 2:1(boys:girls). In some other branches it is as low as 50:1. Diversity is pretty good as there are people from different parts of the country. A lot of extracurricular activities happen. There are sports, debate, music clubs and teams which are really active and can be real fun to be a part of. There are technical clubs which would help one utilize their knowledge into something useful.

Hostel Facilities

2

The hostel facilities are average. In first year we get shared room(3 people) and in second year the room we get a room for two people. Third year onwards one can get a single room. There are no attached bathrooms and the cleanliness depends on the people in your wing. The mess food is sometimes pretty bad, most of the government messes are bad . Outsourced messes present in the campus can be preferred. PG's are available in Surathkal and the rentals are about 7 to 10k.

Alumni/Alumna

The institute has a wide and diverse alumini network who are very encouraging and supportive. They sponsor the fests, startups and provide many job opportunities. The seniors are also very encouraging and fun people. It always helps to know a few seniors who can help you in anything from academics to extracurricular activities.

Exam Structure

There are quizzes,mid-sems,end-sems and lab exams. The exams are hectic as there would be a lot to study with very less time to prepare. Usually there are no gaps between exams and sometimes 2 exams are kept on a single day. But on the bright side the exams get over within a week and we get extra holidays :p .

Admission

The admissions were handled by JOSAA. After getting the college in the first round of seat allotment one has to appear to the institute to get the documents verified (viz. caste certificate[central] , income certificate etc). On the successful verification the institute gives you a admission letter and the date of admission. The next step is to appear on the day of the admission with all the necessary documents specified by the institute with the DD of the college fee . And also one has to choose 2 other people to get a room(3 people per room ), if you don't find some other people you will be allocated a random room.

Faculty

3

As in all other colleges there are good, average and bad faculty here also. But most of the professors have in-depth knowledge about the course and they are more than happy to clarify your doubts at any time. There's no spoon feeding and one has to work on his/her own which would really help him/her as a better engineer.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Curriculum is a mix of both Computer Science and AIML which is increasingly relevant in today's world. Second year: Subjects like Mathematics for AIML, Data Structures, Stats for Data Science, Computer Networks, Third year: DBMS, ANN, ML operations Some other elevtives are also available and courses like Universal Human Values, POME, EIPR etc. Honestly, POME, EIPR, UHV should have less course credits and probably MCQ type exams (like IC and Yoga in first year). Curriculum is good and updating for applications helped along with projects. Exams are generally once in a month, 1.5 - 2 units for each subject each exam. Lab exams at the very end before CIE marks finalization. Then 2 weeks gap for Lab SEE, then 1 week gap and actual SEE's.

Placement Experience:

KSIT has an average placement rate of 70%-85% depending on the branch . CSE,ISE and ECE branches have higher placements while mechanical and civil have fewer opportunities in IT sector . Average package is about 4-6LPA . KSIT attracts many IT based recruitiers with some core companies for non -IT branches . It also provides pre-placement training, coding boot cams, aptitude tests and soft skills development . Alumni network is moderate, but students need off-campus efforts for high paying jobs
