Remarks

Everything has some negative points, for me it is the fee. It is not overpriced, with the services given the fee is reasonable though. Overall, I am proud to be a Thaparian and would like to suggest you all to join this if you have a chance to.

Entrance Preview

I took JEE-Mains Entrance Examination where I scored around 150. Getting into Thapar University was a great opportunity for me. I was always interested in Computers and so I opted for Software Engineering. Thapar has one its own education system which helped me deciding to go for this University.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

Thapar University has Collaborated with Trinity College Dublin, which is known under the best 100 Universities around the world. This helps in improving the course structure making it more research oriented. We have many societies where group of students work together on various projects ranging from social to technical.

Internships Opportunities

Yes our college provides internship in companies like Microsoft, Amazon, De-shaw, Arcesium, etc. However the stipend varies from company to company as well as depends on the ability of the student. The highest Stipend was given by Arcesium this year which was 1 Lac per month to a 3 year Student.

Placement Experience

5

We have good in Campus Placement here. Almost everybody gets placed in the university. There are many big companies involved too like Microsoft, San Disk, Wall Mart Labs, Amazon, JP Morgan, etc. And this is the best thing about Thapar that we have a lot of in campus Placement and almost everyone who are eligible to sit in various companies get placed definitely.

College Events

4.5

We have our technical cum cultural festival of the college named Saturnalia around November every year. It is the biggest fest of the college and so everyone tries to be a part of it. Many celebrities join us in encouraging everyone and making it grand.

Fee Structure And Facilities

I would say it is a little expensive, though being expensive is a related word. For some the fee would be normal while for other sit could be over-expensive. But being a Private University and the quality of education we get, the fee is justified I would say.

Fees and Financial Aid

College has many facilities of scholarship to students which either have a good merit record or are in financial need. Anyone can the whole information by looking on the University Website.

Campus Life

5

The University has over 40 Societies and Clubs in the campus where students participate depending on their hobbies and interests. It not only helps in personality development but also helps in learning new things. As far as diversity is concerned there are students from all across the country. Even my roommate is from Agartala (North East).

Hostel Facilities

5

Hostels are really one thing that are always criticized but that is not the case in Thapar. We have really great hostel facility with both AC as well as NON-AC rooms depending on the needs and the prices. Food is really good, living in a hostel in Punjab would obviously not cause any trouble as we get good food which is also hygienic.

Alumni/Alumna

Thapar is more than 60 years old and so it has a really rich alumni network. We have a society here named as Student Alumni Association Cell which organizes events for student-alumni interaction.

Exam Structure

We have 2 majors these are Mid-Semester Exams (MST) and End-Semester Exams(EST). Along with that we have Lab Evaluations twice in a month. Even though we have to take studies seriously we are left with enough time to work on ourselves. This can be participating in Co-Curricular activities or gaining extra technical knowledge.

Admission

First I opted for filling the admission form of the University. Then I went for taking the JEE Mains Exam and after the score was out, the counseling procedure of Thapar University began. Thapar has its own counseling rounds based in TU-Rank which Thapar gives to every candidate who have applied to them through filling the form. Then, According to TU-Rank we are allotted the seats on eligibility basis as well as availability of the seats on merit basis.

Faculty

4.5

This is something Thapar University is really known for. Having an A grade Faculty is not really an easy thing. Being a student of Computer Science Department I have never really faced a problem with any faculty as they are really supporting in studies and getting extra time out from the faculty is not a big thing in campus. Doubts are taken care of regularly as we have separate tutorial sessions for that.

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
