MAHE Manipal, BE/B.Tech
Reviewed on Oct 1, 2017(Enrolled 2015)

Remarks

A lot of opportunities are given to explore and develop your personality. The college environment is amazing, the people are great and are from all backgrounds. The campus has everything you need right from restaurants, stores, movie theater, etc. The campus is a green campus and cars are not allowed inside. Construction is happening for a new student plaza which will be the center of the college.

Entrance Preview

Admissions to some of the courses, Medicine & Engineering in particular, are done through a process which has an online test followed by counselling, which eventually leads to the admission of a student. Admissions are either through online entrance test or are based on qualifying examination marks.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum is very good. We start from the basics and understand concepts well with the content of the course.

Internships Opportunities

About 50 percent students got internships. The average stipend offered to our college students is about 10000/- per month.

Placement Experience

5

The placements at Manipal college of pharmaceutical sciences are pretty good. Many students, a percentage about 75% were placed. The average salary this year is about 5 lakh per annum. Companies like Johnson Johnson, Pfizer, Cipla, Himalayas, Dr Reddy's, Sun Pharma etc visited our college in the past few years.

College Events

4.5

As far as life outside academics is concerned this is a great college. This college literally has so many options for you to venture into. From student clubs to proper technical clubs like the solar Mobil project and formula Manipal (pretty cool trust me) trust me you don't want to waste your time. Then there is the dramatics societies which don't do much but hey you can party like anything with them.

Fee Structure And Facilities

It's not affordable . Toatal fees - 4,45,500/-. Laptop computers will be given to all students admitted to this course. Tuition fees for Year 3 and 4 will depend on the university to which the student will transfer.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are many scholarships provided by Manipal University. Freeship- In this scholarship there is no tuition fee. But hostel fee needs to be paid. To get this scholarship a student needs to score within 1000 rank in MU-OET. Tuition fee waiver also depends on parental income. But it comes at a condition that students need to maintain a CGPA of 8 in his entire course duration of 4 years. AICTE Scholarship- To avail this scholarship you need to score decent rank in MU-OET. Tuition fee is reduced significantly. It depends on how much is the parental income of the student. For different parental income range, different tuition fee is waivered. There is no CGPA criteria. But if the student wants to change his/her branch after 1st year, he/she needs to give up the scholarship and pay the normal tuition fee from 2nd year onwards. Other Scholarships- There are other scholarships also for Konkani speaking students which I am not fully aware of.

Campus Life

4.5

Yes it encourages extracurriculars. The sports scene is quite interesting, we have two semi professional leagues in cricket and football (MIT Cricket league and MIT football league). I was a part of the latter. But there's high competition even here. So you have plenty of time to up your game.

Alumni/Alumna

Over a 100,000 people across the world are proud members of the Manipal University Alumni network. These include CEOs of global technology giants like Satya Nadella of Microsoft and Rajeev Suri of Nokia, as well as Michelin starred celebrity chef Vikas Khanna, to name just a few. Others include ENT surgeon RC Deka, an expert in cochlear implants, journalists and editors like MV Kamath and MD Nalapath, and many others who have reached the top of their chosen field. All of them are ardent believers in the Manipal philosophy of constantly striving for excellence in whatever field of work they are involved in.

Exam Structure

There's an overload of assignments and tests like any other engineering college. But the labs are in a pathetic stage (especially mechanical and civil) you see a pattern here? You're gonna be a theoretical not a practical engineer.

Faculty

4.5

My course, CSE, is considered to be one of the best here and is so primarily because of the placements. The faculty members I would say are a mix of both good and bad. There are old orthodox teachers still teaching with primitive methods which do make it difficult at times to understand but on the other hand, you have teachers with immense knowledge who have an in depth knowledge and understanding of the course. In CSE I would say our faculty members aren't special. They are all skilled but do lack an understanding of efficient teaching methods. Over the past two years, I have mostly studied myself for a course using my own ways of studying. Teachers usually refer to slides of reference books and at times don't explain well enough. Their emphasis is more on completing the syllabus than making sure everyone in the class understands. Nevertheless, there are exceptions I have had brilliant teachers who still guide me and help me. Most teachers are friendly and approachable outside the class. The student to faculty ratio is around 60:1. We do get an industry exposure as teachers do volunteer to take us on field trips, organize conferences with professors of other universities in India and abroad, call alumni as mentors, etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Curriculum is a mix of both Computer Science and AIML which is increasingly relevant in today's world. Second year: Subjects like Mathematics for AIML, Data Structures, Stats for Data Science, Computer Networks, Third year: DBMS, ANN, ML operations Some other elevtives are also available and courses like Universal Human Values, POME, EIPR etc. Honestly, POME, EIPR, UHV should have less course credits and probably MCQ type exams (like IC and Yoga in first year). Curriculum is good and updating for applications helped along with projects. Exams are generally once in a month, 1.5 - 2 units for each subject each exam. Lab exams at the very end before CIE marks finalization. Then 2 weeks gap for Lab SEE, then 1 week gap and actual SEE's.

Placement Experience:

KSIT has an average placement rate of 70%-85% depending on the branch . CSE,ISE and ECE branches have higher placements while mechanical and civil have fewer opportunities in IT sector . Average package is about 4-6LPA . KSIT attracts many IT based recruitiers with some core companies for non -IT branches . It also provides pre-placement training, coding boot cams, aptitude tests and soft skills development . Alumni network is moderate, but students need off-campus efforts for high paying jobs
