Remarks

The college is present in the middle of the city Patiala, situated at very strategic position 5 minutes away from the bus stand. The nearest airport IAS in Chandigarh which is 1.5 hours away from the campus. A wide variety of restaurants and cafes is available in a 2-mile radius.

Entrance Preview

The admission at Thapar University is done on the basis of JEE MAIN score. To apply for BTech courses a person must have scored at least 20% in JEE MAIN exam i.e. 72 marks. Some seats are reserved for backward classes and there is a quota for students of Punjab also. For the admission, you need to apply online and there are 4 rounds of online counsellings and after that In-person counseling to fill the vacant seats.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

It was very good and innovative for me with full of theoretical cum practical knowledge. The courses I have read were very accurate and research oriented.

Internships Opportunities

Yes the college do provide internship for Btech students many summer training programmes are organised by the different departments based on softwares and many more for the M.Tech students teaching assistantship is provided to them during their couse with a stien of 8000 to 12000 as decided by the MHRD for the GATE Qualified students.

Placement Experience

4

The placement at the campus is good. Mostly, all of the students get placed as I heard from my seniors but it depends on the student whether they want to get a job or pursue higher studies. The average salary offered is around 5 lakhs per annum. The companies which visited are TCS, Infosys, Microsoft, Apple, Google, Deloitte, etc.

College Events

4

There are many societies in Thapar University that organize many technical as well as sporting events. Saturnalia, Urja, Mudra Nite, Izhaar, Nox Night are the main events. I worked in Saturnalia (Techno-Cultural fest) last year and I learned many things from my seniors like how to plan for an event, lead a team, marketing strategy.

Fee Structure And Facilities

It's not affordable.its very expensive .The fee structure is on the expensive side at Thapar University. The students who got admission in the year 2016 almost pay Rs. 1.3 lakh per semester without including hostel and mess fee.

Fees and Financial Aid

Many scholarships are provided to students here at Thapar. Toppers from each branch are given merit scholarships. Apart from this, there are much more scholarships such as Vimlasons Charitable Foundation Scholarship for 1 girl from all years having annual income is less than Rs. 10,000 per annum, minority scholarship, post-graduate scholarship.

Campus Life

4.5

Extracurriculars are good and exist.Societies organize events regularly. Team Fateh is one of the best society for mechanizes, IEI Student Chapter (for electrical, EIC, electronics students), IICHE (for chemical branch students) also debating society, Faps (for students who like photography and drawing), Paryawaran Society and many more societies are there. Many events are celebrated in our college as for the overall development of the mind co-curricular participation is as important as studies. Also, it is the soft skills that matter after Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

Hostel Facilities

4

The hostels are good. The University has 12 hostels. Yes, the room is shared between 2 and 4 students. If a student shares a room with 3 more students then he has to pay less fee and vice versa. The food quality is fine. There is a gym in each hostel and guards are on duty 24*7. One bed, study table, and almirah are provided to every student.

Alumni/Alumna

Very much helpful seniors. Alumni network i have not met. But my seniors was helping in clearing our doubts and as well as proving notes.

Exam Structure

The Exam are organised twice in one semester with one minor and other major. Papers are made out of class notes only and a minor aptitude based questions are involved for students to check the intellectual.

Faculty

4

The faculty team available is generally doctorate-qualified and is well-versed with the subject they teach. They usually give knowledge about the latest technology which we are working with and some extra knowledge too. We do get industry exposure here teaching methods used are by using board and projectors too to explain the things which can't be explained on the 2-dimensional board.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
