Remarks

My overall experience is awesome in my college till now. I haven't faced any problems with my studies or any other activities. Till now, i have only good effect of my college on me. This college specially helped me in developing my personality. Here i have been part of various activities that enhanced my abilities and skills.

Entrance Preview

I had given Jee main 2016 and obtained a good sum of marks in it which made me to take admission here. Any interview process is not followed here except for the in-person counselling. I chose B. Tech with Computer Science as i have interests in this field and want to explore more about computers.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Computer Science is generally the best course available in any college at these times including ours. Thapar university has all sorts of labs that are necessary to gain practical knowledge about the course. Different research programs are going on at the time consisting of faculty along with PhD students. In the very first 2 years of the course, curriculum of all students is same but 3rd year on wards different options are available for students respective to their interests e. g. animation and gaming, machine learning, etc are available for them.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, college provide internship opportunities to students from 3rd year onwards. Average stipend goes about 1-2 lakh per year.

Placement Experience

4

Placement scenarios are well and good here with over 90% placement records. Major companies like Microsoft, Samsung, SanDisk, delloite, Arcesium, etc visits college every year. Average package of college is around 6 lakhs whereas in my branch avg package is 8-10 lakhs

College Events

4.5

College has a Techno-Cultural fest with a name of Saturnalia which is an annual fest. Other small fest also takes place like Mudra, Urjaa, izhaar, etc. Average footfall of Saturnalia is around 3-4k students every year. All the fests are organised by students themselves with a fixed budget provided by the college.

Fee Structure And Facilities

If we consider fees as a factor then Thapar is not a best option for middle class students. Fees is not at all affordable for them but college provides various benefits and scholarships to students who are good in studies or their family income is below 4 lakhs. Fee details for 2017- Tution fees-85000, Development fees- 45000, Other charges - 10000, Hostel fees-25000 to 45000, Hike of 10% is applied every year on the fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes college provide various scholarships to students who are in need or have done well in academics.

Campus Life

4

Descent experience Within my 2 years in college I have a decent experience filled with various ups and downs.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Yes, i have taken hostel room. Hostel rooms are good but not good enough according to the fees they are taking from us.

Exam Structure

Schedule is very hectic for a student in thapar as they have to attend classes 8am-5am mostly for 5 days a week. So yes, exams and labs make students feel tired.

Faculty

3.5

Quality of faculty is undoubtedly good. They are well qualified and have knowledge of every topic. Average experience a teacher have in thapar is around 5 years or more. Interactions are okay with us. Standard of teaching is fine according to fees they are taking from us.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
