Course Curriculum Overview

4

I am currently during by B.Tech in Computer Engineering..I chose this course because. it aligns with my future prospects. The faculty here is well trained..They come from top-notch universities around India and are highly experienced. Though Faculty-student ratio can be improved a little bit as there are a bit more students than the facult members.. There are two term examinations which are conducted : Mid Semester and End semester apart from the quizzes, sessionals and lab evaluations. If you are regular in your studies and attend classes frequently, it is very comfortable to pass and even get good grades.

Internships Opportunities

4

Again, as a first year.. i dont know alot about internships but from what i have heard.. companies put a CGPA cut for students and then there are personal inetrviews and group discussion rounds and major recruiters are JP Morgan and DE shaw

Placement Experience

3.5

I am in first year right now, so i don't know a lot about placements..but from what i haveheard is that the highest package offered last year was 55Lakh RS per annum and average was around 12 lakhs per annum..

Fees and Financial Aid

Thapar has increased its fees exponentially over the past few years.. It is not easy for a middle class family candidate to afford the tuition fees along with accommodation and other expenses..It takes around 22-30 lakhs depending upon your lifestyle to study here for four years. The provie abundant scholarships on basis of merit and family income. For first years, merit scholarship is provided on the basis of JEE mains scoreand from second year onwards, scholarships are provided on the basis of CGPA scored by the candidate.

Campus Life

4.5

Campus life here is fantastics! They have humongous infrastructure which is spread over an area of 300 acres..every facility from cafes, shops, banks, atms to a central park(Nirvana), state of art-hostels are provided for.. There are more than 50 clubs, socities and chapters in thapar in total and one can join them according to one's preferences and likings!

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Hostels are really top notch.. i am currenlty in hostel k which is two seater AC.. you can choose room acoording to your own needs and likings.. Basically in every hostel, they have a air conditioned mess, gym, reading rooms and laundry services are also taken care of! In every room you will find a matress, curtains, a table and a chair, fan ,AC(if you have opted for one!). Though mess fees is very economical ..Hostel fees is a bit too high! Mine is 52000 Rs for one semester.. Mostly, hostel allotments are carried out By DosA OFFICE and you get a mail regarding it.

Admission

Basically, the eligibility of the course depends upon the branch you are opting. The general eligibility is you must have completed your class 12 th with maths and physics as main subjects and chemistry ,biochemistry or computer science as your other subject. You can get admission based upon two creteria: JEE Mains Score or 12th PCM%.. seats are reserved for both the categories. Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
