Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course which is Bachelor of Science in Geography and Geoinformatics is a new course under the new NEP rule 2020. The course is about the geography and geoinformatics which helps us to understand that how is technology is used in surveying and mapping and map making by cartographers. The curriculum is good as it prepares for three types of jobs. One is UPSC and other government jobs then comes IT sector and then the Teaching profession. More computer and tracing rooms should be provided as many are getting admitted to the course. The following course has semester wise exams which will be twice a year with practicals. As of now I have Geomorphology, Cartography, Environmental studies, Statistics, Kannada and English. The difficulty level depends on the student itself as how he studies but out of 6 paper one to two papers are usually difficult but other are easy and average which helps the students to understand and clear the exams without any difficulty including the practicals.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

Many internships are being provided by the government bodies and private companies. Many government bodies like ISRO DRDO BARC NRSC SOI KSTA and many other government bodies and private companies are offering internship opportunities for students. A student is eligible for internship after completing the 2nd semester.

Placement Experience

3.5

The campus placement has been improved since last year. After 6th semester a student is eligible for campus placement. Indian space research organisation, Survey of India, National remote sensing centre and many other companies and Government bodies offers the placements. The highest package is 10lakh per annum and average is around 5lakh per annum to 6lakh per annum. As the placement been improved this year so its around 40 to 60 Percentage depending on the size of the class room and skills. My plan is to join defence after completing my degree.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees structure is affordable for all. As of now my fees was 25000. And payment will be made through online from official website of Bangalore University. The fees hikes from around 5000 to 6000 rupees yearly. The complete cost of my fees is 25000 but after paying for service charges and compulsory charges it increases upto 31000 and hostel for general category students is also being provided for 30000 per annum or 2500 per month. The scholarships are provided to the students who are from backward class and students with less than 100000 income per annum. The State government provides a state level scholarship called SSP and central government provides a national level scholarship called NSP which allows students to pay their tution fees which students can avail through official government portals after admission. The placement have been from year 2023 and made compulsory for everyone to apply and attend the interview. I work as a volunteer in my geo forum club.

Campus Life

4

The campus is very greeny and the campus is over 1000 acres. We have bus stop and a railway halt and also a metro station dedicated to our university. There are many conferences. Some are State level but some are National and international levels. There is a central library and departmental library which has almost all books which we need. Yearly two sports meet is conducted. One by department and other by University. There are many departmental clubs as well as NSS and NCC.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The hostel fees is around 2500 per month or 30000 per year. The rooms are quite big and each room contains three students. Tables chairs and shelves are being provided in every room and also the beds are provided. Everyday an egg and banana is given for every student and weekly twice non veg is provided. Meal and menu are good then hostel and student life. We can register or apply for hostel through the official website of Bangalore University. Then fees need to paid to the manager. I live in hostel but there are many locality like Ullal Nagarbhavi or Mariyappanaplaya.

Admission

The admission process was online. I got to know this course through a newspaper. You need to visit official website of Bangalore University that is UUCMS in which you need to apply for course. Eligibility for the course is that you need to pass 12 grade in first class. The application form will be found in the website written above or you may contact University for any help. Reservation is given for all backward class students with caste and income. Scholarship is given to the students from backward class people. And free hostel facility with pocket money is also being provided. The year i applied for course there was no exam because it was a new course under NEP so I was selected through my 12th percentage. But from this the admissions will through K-CET and exam is conducted once a year the difficulty level is a bit medium but less than JEE or NEET and more than board exams. The admission process is quite easy but confusions regarding particular courses should be cleared.

Interview Experience

3.5

The course was started under the NEP 2020 in a very few Universities around the India. For the admission the only condition was to pass the 12th grade in first class. So i was selected through my 12th percentage which was 72. As of now the rules have been changed and altered. For now the students who apply should have minimum 60 percentage in all subjects and should clear K-CET which allows them to get admitted through writing the test and later getting cut-off for each course. For me there was no interview or written test as i was the second batch of this course. But the next batch will face the compitition as they need write exam and only 60 seats will be given for the course and 60 will get selected through exams and interviews. I was aware of the course in general so there was no difficulty for me as there was no separate written test as this was the new course and batch was new.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There wasn't really any. It was mostly the friendliness of the profs that pulled me into maths. Do note that in IISc, the first three semesters are common and you pick majors after that. The maths curriculum prepares you for a future in either industry or academia. Moreover, one can take courses in other departments to help their industry pursuits. Only way would be to make some courses more interactive, but this hasn't been a problem for me personally. Most high level courses have two exams. Sometimes not even that. And exams generally aren't difficult for someone who has kept up with the course.

from 6th semister onwards students are eligible for pkacements. I dont know about the companies of placements as iam a fresher here. The placements here are really good in this course. After Msc forensic science the annual package in an average here is 2-5 lakhs. Almost 80% of forensic students get placement here. As iam pursuing my bachelors here, iam thinking of writing the entrance exam for NFSU gujarath for my Masters.

Placement Experience:

Our university has a training and placement office for the fourth and fifth year students. Before that you need to find internship opportunities yourself. The significant companies include EY, MoSpi, RBI, NSE etc. The is around 50% placements. The highest package was around 40 lakhs and the lowest 5 lakhs. I plan on working in the RBI after my degree.
