Course Curriculum Overview

4

The first year syllabus includes Engineering Mathematics 1 and 2 , Basics of Electical Engineering, Basics of Electronics , Engineering Chemistry, Engineering Physics , Engineering Mechanics , Communication Skills , Computer programming , Mechanical Workshops and Engineering Drawing . Second year onwards subjects of the respective branches are included in the syllabus , particularly if I talk about Mechanical Engineering then we have Engineering Thermodynamics , Kinematics of Machines ,Metrology and Measurement,Fluid Mechanics and Machinery, Machine Drawing, Heat and Mass Transfer , Industrial Engineering , Dynamics of Machines , SOM, Thermal Engineering 1&2 , Automobile Engineering , Machine Design 1&2, RAC, Manufacturing Science and Technology 1&2 , Operations Research and CAD , other then this we have various labs , Seminar, Industrial Training presentation, major and minor projects, 2 open & 4 professional electives. Overall the curriculum is good and relevant to industrial needs.

Internships Opportunities

3

The internships are provided in the 3rd year during 6th sem ..there are two kind of internships which are offered 1) Research Internships which are offered by IITs ,IISc and other prestigious colleges . The selection is totally on the basis of your academic score , interest and recommendations from professors. 2) Industrial Internships which are offered by industries to provide students the actual hands on experience of the respective profession. The selection is based on the Interview , projects and sometimes good approach through your connections. Although the internship opportunities are not very much but still there are few companies that take students for internships of 1 to 3 months duration. In Mechanical Engineering, Reliance Energies , JSW , ONGC , TVS , etc are some of the companies that offer internships to the students.

Placement Experience

3.5

The placements are decent . Like the overall average package including all the branches comes around 10 LPA and the average placement percentage is around 85%. The highest offer depends on year to year like in the privious year , 2023 it was 52 LPA and in 2022 it was 1.51 Cr . CSE and DCS have highest placement packages with an average of about 16 LPA . If I talk about Mechanical Engineering, then the average package is around 8 LPA with highest of 18 LPA previous year ,which was 36 LPA in recent years . Amazon, CRED , Accenture, SAP Labs, IBM , Phillips , Godrej , Anglo Eastern , Maruti Suzuki , Tech Mahindra, TVS , Reliance Energies, L&T etc are some of the prominent recruiters .

Fees and Financial Aid

For General and OBC category people , the tuition fee is Rs 62500 (if annual family income is more than 5 Lacs) and Rs 20833 (if annual family income is between 1 to 5 Lacs)and Rs 0 (if annual family income is less than 1 Lacs). For SC/ST and Physically handicapped peopleThe tuition fee is Rs 0. Per Sem Institute charges for every student is Rs 21100. One time Institute charges (at the time of admission only) for every student is Rs 13000. Hostel and mess charges for every student are Rs 40000 ( for odd sem), Rs 25000 ( for even sem) The total expense for the entire 4 years of Btech cost about Rs 9,30,100 for General category .There are various private and government scholarships for students ranging from Merit based to need based which are provided in the college . Like for SC/ST category , there is scholarship through NSP , Kalpanana Chawla Scholarship for girls who passed their 10 th and 12 th from HP Board , Samsung Star Scholarship etc. Visit the official site of NITH .

Campus Life

4.5

The campus life is vibrant here , there are so many cultural and technical clubs and societies fulfilling the different interests of the students. Societies are active throughout the year while clubs are active only around the Annual Tecnical Fest (Nimbus) and the Annual Cultural Fest (Hill'fair). Some of the prominent societies are Robosoc , Revanta, SPEC , GDSC etc. Other then this , college also promotes sports , there are various sports which are being played like Cricket, Football, Basketball, Lawn Tennis, Volleyball, Badminton, Kabbadi, Athletics etc and indoor games includes Chess , Carrom, Table Tennis , Snooker etc The infrastructure of the college is really good which includes Sports Complex ,OAT, Student Activity Centre , Computer Centre , 2 Lecture Hall Buildings , Central Library and Reading Halls, Auditorium , 12 Hostels ( 8 for Boys and 4 for Girls) , various Departments, Temple , Administrative Block, Central Block , Faculty Quarters etc. Overall it's awesome.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

3 and 4 students accomodate in a room from 1 st to 3 rd year. Single rooms are provided in the 4 th year .The rooms are okay in size , each student is provided with a bed , table , chair and an almirah or cupboard . Each hostel has mess, common room , study room, sports room, Guest rooms . New hostels like Himgiri , Himadri and Udaigiri have elevators also . Every hostel has Jio wifi facility. Talking of the mess , the quality of mess food is good and the taste is also fair ... ultimately it depends on person to person . Hostels are changed every year , ie after completing an year students have to shift to new hostel . Overall the accomadation and food are good enough and will bother anyone as such.

Admission

Admission was on the basis of the score of JEE Mains Exam through JoSAA Counselling. The cutoff percentile of JEE Mains 2022 for General category was 88.4 percentile , my score was 96.34 percentile on the basis of which I was able to get a seat in Mechanical Engineering of NIT Hamirpur in the 4th round of JoSAA Counselling. The fee of JoSAA Counselling was Rs 35000 for General and the admission fee was mentioned in the website of respective colleges. Later the admission form and other admission related documents were downloaded from the official website of NIT Hamirpur and the physical reporting was scheduled to be held from 7- 9 November, 2022. The online process was good but the physical reporting was very hectic and messy, so I suggest there should be some improvements related to the management and administration of the colleges regarding the physical reporting.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities at my college are average. A few reputed companies visit the campus each year, but the number of offers and salary packages varies depending on the branch and market conditions. Students who have strong academic performance, technical skills, internships, and good communication skills generally have better chances of getting placed.
