Course Curriculum Overview

4

I am pursuing Computer Engineering course. This course covers a lot of real world applications as well as makes us placement ready. The course curriculum inlcudes subjects like DSA, OOPS and system design to name a few. I chose this course as I have always had a keen interest in tech and computer science. Knowing how a technology works and working at the absolute core level of it has always fascinated me. Exams are held twice in a semester, Mid sem and End Sem and each sem is of 6 months.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

I am currently in first year so have little knowledge about internships but I know that companies like BlackRock come for internships at the campus in the third year. Most companies offer the role of Junior Software Engineer. There are companies that also come for Core branches also like Chemical, Mechanical and Electrical.

Placement Experience

3.5

I am currently in first year so do not have enough information on placement. I do know that a lot of big companies do visit the campus for hiring. Average package of last year was around 12 lpa and average package of computer related branches was around 15 lpa. I also plan on taking college placement or maybe pursue higher education.

Fees and Financial Aid

Fee per semester for Computer related courses is around 2.40 lac. This inlcudes tuition fee, development fee, and other charges. The hostel and mess fee are around 50k and 25k respectively per semester. There are numeroud scholarships for - branch wise scholarship based on merit and a merit cum means scholarship is also there. One can get scholarship of TF + DF (Tuition fee + development fee), TF and TF/2 based on CGPA secured.

Campus Life

4

The campus life here is quite good. There are numeroud societies and student chapters which aids in socialising and creating a wide peer group. Saturnalia is the annual Tech and cultural fest which takes places in the month of November. It provides opportunity to everyone to showcase their skills and talent in any domain from dance and music to hackathons. Classrooms are well equiped with latest technologies. All kinds of sports facilities are provided within the campus.

Hostel Facilities

4

There are enough number of Hostels within the campus so one does not need to find accomodation outside campus. Most of the hostels are newly made with good infrastructure, furniture, etc. All types of rooms are available - 4 seater, 3 seater, 2 seater and single seater with options of AC and without AC. Hostels have cupboards, Tables, chairs and beds (bunk beds in 4 seater). There are also gyms in every hostel. The mess food is decent not very bad. One can register for hostel when taking admission and fill the preference of hostels.

Admission

The admission process was smooth. The admission forms were out on TIET website and all the counselling rounds took place online. There was a last counselling round that took place offline in which branches were also upgraded. To be eligible for BE course, one needs to give JEE and admission can be done on the basis of Board percentage or JEE percentile. The application form can be found at thapar.edu website and admission form is fees was around 2000. The cutoff for COE branch was around 94 pececntile for outside Punjab students. There is separate Punjab Quota for Punjab resident students as well as other OBC, SC, ST, etc quotas.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
