Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

I chose Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) as my course. I had interest in it and was confident in my abilities. In the real world, knowledge about different programming language makes a huge difference and gives you the edge over others. The exams are difficult, not very difficult but difficult

Internships Opportunities

4

There are a lot of companies, JP morgan with a stipend of 1,50,000 Arcesium with a stipend of 1,75,000 American express with a stipend of 1,00,000. To name a few. Mainly these companies needs SDE( software development engineer) and sometimes product manager.

Placement Experience

4

In my course, we are eligible in the 6th semester for internships but the companies come untill the end of 8th semester. The total number of companies were around 300 and total offers made were around 1500. The highest package offered was of 55 lacs. In my course 95% students gets placed. My plan is to do MBA.

Fees and Financial Aid

The tuition fee keeps increasing slightly every semester. The complete cost including my own expenses and hostel rent and mess fee per semester is around 3-3.2 lacs Scholarships here are of various types, means cum merit, and if your family has a annual income less than a certain criteria, then also you get a scholarship.

Campus Life

5

Our annual techno-cultural fest Saturnalia is one of the most amazing fest in the north india, usually held in November. Our library is one of the best in the world and it is world renowned, nava nalanda central library. Our classrooms are well furnished, modernised with air conditioning. We also have our sports fest URJA in the month of February. Social groups, clubs etc impact the student life in a positive sense as they get confidence by talking to people.

Hostel Facilities

5

My room has an attarched washroom, balcony, study table, an almirah, a shoe rack. The mess food is decent not very good not very bad. Registration process is easy, we just have to select our preferences of hostels and based on our CGPA we get the hostels.

Admission

The admission process was not easy, the cutoff was high for my particular course. I took the JEE main entrance exam in which i scored decently. The eligibility for the admission to Thapar can be done by JEE as well as 12th scores as well, my 12th scores were quite high so i was confident. The application form for thapar can be found on their website only. The one area where i would say that the admission process can be improved is by not having Punjab quota, that is, 50% seat reservation

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
