Course Curriculum Overview

3

Statistics honours deals with mathematical statistics mainly. You ll learn some amazing subjects like Inference, Sampling, Probability along with programming softwares like SPSS, R etc. This course is highly valuable if you want to work in corporate sector, when you graduate you ll be of high value to companies like the big 4. Ofcourse you can always go for post graduation both from India or abroad(it is valued even more abroad). Then, if you feel like working for the govt. you can try to get into Indian Statistical Services or try CSE (It has statistics as an optional subject). But this is one of the most difficult subjects in CU. It demands your patience along with some serious studying. There may be times when you may feel like this subject is not for you and you ll see people from other courses enjoying more. So if you are not insecure about that and you have interest in mathematics, I would say you are making a great choice.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure for the Asutosh College campus placement scholarship is 18,000 rupees. Students who score 60% in a semester may be eligible for the Swami Vivekananda merit cum scholarship, which is offered by the West Bengal government. Asutosh College is affiliated with the University of Calcutta and has an 'A' grade from NAAC. The college also offers several government-sponsored scholarships, including the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), which is a digital platform that offers scholarships from the central government, state governments, and various government agencies.

Campus Life

2

A large number of facilities are provided by the college to its students. The campus of the institute has updated facilities and infrastructure. Asutosh College facilities are a library, boys hostel, girl hostel, auditorium, seminar hall, canteen etc. The library of the college is well stocked with adequate numbers of books. Asutosh Memorial Hall is the auditorium of the institute. It is equipped with modern equipment. In addition to these, the college also has playgrounds for different sports, medical centre, laboratories and alumni association. The institute has facilities for both academics and sports.

Admission

I am a 1nd year student in statistics honors at Asutosh College. At the time of admission i thought that i will study in a medium level college as there are high level colleges like Presidency or St. Xaviers but in the end of the year i noticed that one can study here freely without involving in politics or any other things. The college is very famous for its cultural programme(viz. Departmental freshers, college freshers, 3rd year senior alumni…) and almost there is a programme every month. Teachers are helpful and brilliant. Canteen is not so good though..... Teachers take classes on regular basis. U can attend it or not…your choice.. Environment is peaceful.

Other Applied Colleges

Presidency University | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons.} (Statistics)

I was not able to appear for spot counseling.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

The course is very relevant as it provides us an overall knowledge of biology and not dividing it into various sections rather giving us an insight of every aspect of biology. It includes everything such as microbiology, zoology, botany, physiology, molecular biology and so on.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

Placement Experience:

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
