Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

Subjects are mostly your branch related but certain subjects feel useless. Branch related subjects are mostly interesting with a lab component and they prove to be relevant in the respective fields. The college tries to improve the curriculum but all of this is mostly focused for computer related branches. The other branches are treated in a secondary way. Exams are held timely, 2 exams each semester, during, March, May, October and January. The teachers teach during lectures but eventually students tend to study on their own only before exams.

Internships Opportunities

2.5

The internships begin during 5th semester, but it is only for students who have a good CGPA. After covid the internship opportunities have decreased a lot, but still companies visit the college. Usually for electronics, companies like samsung, texas instruments used to visit the collegem. The college also funds research or practical projects done by students. It helps students build their resume.

Placement Experience

3

The placements are offered but they have dropped significantly since Covid. Their are still companies who visit but its mainly upto students to maintain their CGPA and work on their resumes. The cutoff for top companies is high and the college itself sets 9 CGPA cutoff for all students. Students are eligible for placements since 3rd year. Companies such as Goldman Sachs and Morgan and chase visit our college. Average packages is 7 to 8 lakh per annum. Around 60 to 70 percent students get placed.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure is around 220000 each semester (6 months) fees. Additionally around 60000 + 25000 for hostel + mess each semester. The fees increases by around 8 to 10 thousands each semester. Their are scholarships for students who perform exceptionally well during the semester exams and get a high CGPA. You can apply for projects for the college but they don't pay much, they do help students build resume.

Campus Life

4

The college consists of clubs for each field of interest. Such as tech societies, art and photography, sports, literary and many more. Each society hosts events through out the year, providing fun and entertainment to the students. The annual tech fest of thapar is Saturnalia and it is 2 to 3 fun filled days with games, tech events, robot fights, a hackathon and concerts at night by famous singers and bands. The library is also a beautiful piece of infrastructure, with beautiful interiors and a huge collection of course book. The annual sports event is named Urja and it is open to all.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The hostel facilities are okayish, the food is not that good, especially dinner. The cleaning of rooms is not regular and the laundry services allows limited clothes to be washed each time. The in time is also very early, other than that its fine only. The hostel nights are fun and food during those nights is also great. Registration needs to be done before start of semester, shifting each year is another headache, which is mostly compulsory.

Admission

The admission process was pretty straightforward. We had to submit our JEE scorecard and our 12th Marksheet. Based on both of these we are alloted our engineering branches. Branch can be upgraded later on during spot rounds. The cutoff for computer engineering is 95 percentile. All details regarding admissions are available on the website.

Faculty

3

The teachers are mostly PhD's from renowned colleges like IIT's and NIT's and are experienced in their respective fields. The ratio is one teacher to 90 students during lectures and one teacher to 30 students during Labs and Tutorials. Teachers are mostly helpful and willing to clear doubts even after classes. They can be approached anytime and they send the lecture PPT's separately too. But certain teachers just drone on during classes making it difficult to concentrate.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
