Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is the best when it comes to HR. When it comes to Finance, the subjects are really very useful when it comes to the real world. The curriculum for marketing lacks a bit as it is not able to prepare students for a real world marketing. The strategy courses are case based and a few professors are wonderful but on the other hand a lot of value is not added by a few other professors. The labour law professor is one of the best of the country. Every professor has his or her own scheme of taking exams. Although the college says that in the final evaluation there must be atleast three components and the weightage of one component can not be more than forty percent. Some professors like to keep it to 3-4 where as others like to move it to 6-7.

Internships Opportunities

4

The PGDHRM program bags 70-80 percent internships in the HR domain. Rest are prodman, GenMan, Consulting and business development. Top consulting firms like BCG, Bain, McKinsey etc short list students from HR batch. Then, FMCG firms like Nestle, HUL, P&G, Dabur, ITC, ColPal, Cocal Cola, PepsiCo, offer internships to students with an average stipend of 150000 pm. The project are HR based where interns are asked to design a change management program, benchmark compensation practices with what is going in the country, develop the onboarding program, make the performance management program or suggest improvements in the same, etc.

Placement Experience

4

The students are interviewed for their summer internships right after the first semester. Some students secure a PPO. The rate is 30 percent. Then in the second year, the students sit for placements right after the fifth semester exams. The placement rate is 100 percent. The companies visited is around 120-150. The highest package is generally offered by a investment banking firm. The highest package is around 75 LPA. The average package is around 25 LPA. Everyone gets placed and the institute never ask anyone to sign out forcefully from the process. After getting the degree, almost everyone joins the firm he or she is placed in.

Fees and Financial Aid

Tuition fee is 32 lakhs now, a 10 percent increase from last year. This is one of the highest when compared to other top IIMs. The average package increase is not aligned with the fees increase in the past two years, probably because of the recession going on in the job market. The mess fees comes to be around 6000 a month which makes it to Rs 1 lakh for the 18 months of your stay in the campus. Apart from these two, they really do not charge anything in any case. There are a few scholarships and financial aids. The number of such scholarships is limited to 10. The curriculum does not allow anyone to take any employment during the college.

Campus Life

5

The major test is conducted in November, whose name is Ensemble Vallahala. It is a cultural feat and participation comes from IIM Bodh Gaya, IIFT Kolkata, XIM Bhuvaneshwar and IIM Ranchi. Cultural and sports events take place across three days. The celebrity night includes a reputed artist who comes and perform. Another wonderful event conducted by XLRI is Maxi Fair which is a marketing research event. The people of z jamshedpur fondly calls it as their own Jamshedpur Mela. The classrooms are spacious and well lit and ventilated for thr 60 people and they are fully air conditioned. The facility of online classes is also provided if someone's problem is genuine. Among sports, their is a contingent for Cricket, Villeyball, Basketball, Tennis, Badminton, futsal, and chess. There are multiple student run committees and each committee has their own interests and area of work. The campus has two wonderful gyms with all the necessary equipments.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The room does provide a window, a table and a chair, bed and a wardrobe. You have to purchase your own pillow and mattress. The AC is not provided in the Jamshedpur campus for PGDM program students. The menu of the mess is below average with various things together which do no complement each other. The fruits are given almost daily and on Sunday a special dinner is prepared. The facility of a microwave, an induction and a toaster is provided in the mess if you want to cook something on your own. There is no separate process for hostel registration. Since it is a residential programme, everyone gets accommodation in the campus itself.

Admission

The eligibility is graduation in any stream. The admission process is available on the college website. You have to score good percentile in XAT exam so that you can get a call for the interviews and then, if your interview is good, you can convert your call and secure admission. Now they have started GD PI also, and interview process is no more virtual. The application fees is somewhere between Rs 2500/- and Rs 3000/-. The XAT exam is very similar to CAT and it tests you on your verbal ability, decision making and quantitative aptitude. You need to study 2-3 hours a day consistently to secure good marks in the exam.

Faculty

5

Faculty to Student ratio is 1:60 in the first year and in the second year it depends on the size of the class because everyone has to choose electives. It ranges from 1:25 to 1:45. The faculty is world renowned and many of them go to various corporates and other colleges for guest lectures. Their approach is based on comprehensive learning and they generally make sure the students, if he is taking efforts, grasp everything. They are always ready to take extra classes. The teachers are very approachable and we can ask them for the time to have a one on one interaction if required.

Placement Experience:

After 4th semester students get eligible for placements. I guess around more than 50+ companies visit the campus. The highest package is always around 20+ lakhs and on average you can consider 12 lakhs while the lowest is 8 lakhs. The percentage of students getting placed can be said around 95%. My plan is to get a good corporate job and work there as such no fancy plans.

Placement Experience:

There are many companies that visit IMS and pick students by taking exams and interviews. Some of them include Accenture, Capgemini, tcs, etc. These multinational companies visit and you can take your chance by qualifying exam and interview. In short, there is full placement in IMS and you will surely be settled after your course.
