BIT MESRA-The Good And Bad

The college management can be better and the administration has to improve.

My JEE mains marks were 140 and based on that marks during the choice filling I saw that BIT MESRA was the best college amongst other choices. Secondly, it is ranked 2nd amongst private colleges in India and also has a good tag. After googling it I discovered that the infrastructure was better than many other colleges and this was also one of my reasons.

The course curriculum of my branch which is Chemical Engineering is good and properly designed for a B.E graduate. The first year is basically the basics of all engineering streams and from the second year, the core subjects come. Including them, we have subjects like Foreign Language, Biological science, etc. which are also important to study besides engineering. So the course curriculum is perfect.

As far as internships are concerned, yes or college do provide internship during summers and winters but with no stipend. It is basically any training process or any project under a professor to be specific. The overall experience is really nice as we get to learn a lot of new things which will help us in the future.

Coming to placements, BIT MESRA provides amazing placements and job opportunities to the students. Placements are exceptional for CSE, IT and ECE branches and average for others. Companies like Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Flipkart, etc do visit our campus. There are very few core companies which visit like Vedanta, Reliance, Tata Steel, etc. The placement scenario for our course is around 70%. One can have multiple job opportunities.

There are plenty of events celebrated in the college by the different clubs organized by the students' body. To name a few: Pantheon Diamante Naad Dramzest Bit Unplugged Bitotsav Fresher's Nite Deepotsav Heritage Nite Rostra Lit Nite Utkrisht Coalescence, and many more.

The fee structure is a bit expensive as compared to other NITs and IITs.Because it comes under the GFTIs and so the fee should be reasonable but at the same time less than other private institutions. It is approximately 12 lakhs for a B.E course which I feel is a little expensive.

There are many scholarships which are offered to the students who score good marks and are good in academics. One of them is the G.P BIRLA scholarship for those having a cgpa of 8 and above which is really good.

Campus life is the most awesome experience one has in the college. The college campus is of 700 acres surrounded by trees and plants. It is one of the biggest campuses in eastern India. The gender ratio is reasonable 3:1. During the whole year, there are extracurricular fests and nites which attract a lot of students like Pantheon, Bitotsav, Deepotsav, etc. Labs are well built and have all the required equipment. For sports, we have a sports complex which is accessible to all the students. We have 22 cultural and technical clubs which organize many competitions during the semesters.

This is absolutely my choice so no offense and bias. I would rate the hostel facility 7 out of ten, and the mess food 7 out of ten. We have separate hostels for boys and girls. Every year we have different hostels beginning from 1st to 4th. But yes mess food is healthy and they ensure that it contains proper diets.

The alumni and seniors are very helpful and always supporting whenever help is needed. They behave like elder brothers and sisters.

Talking about the exam structure, we have 60 marks of end semester exam and 40 marks of internals. The internals includes 25 marks of mid-semester exams and 15 marks of quizzes and assignments. The examination pattern has no changes but it is very difficult to get marks here.

Firstly, after clearing JEE mains, according to my CRL rank I had to fill choices of colleges based on it. Next the seat acceptance procedure. In this, I accepted my seat in BIT MESRA from NIT JAMSHEDPUR. After the seat acceptance next comes the final admission procedure where actually I had to go to the college for physical verification and all and thus it was done.

Regarding the faculty as we all know that engineering colleges have good faculty but over here we have a fifty-fifty criterion. Some faculty is exceptionally good while some are not. But all the faculty members are highly qualified in their respective fields.
