Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The courses taught at the Thapar University are designed in a very unique way to make it easy for students to grasp the basics and use them for future advanced applications. The pdfs provided with other study material acts as wonderful notes which lessens the hassle of students for preparing notes. There could be an improvement in the attendance criteria as the students tend to ignore classes because of the ready made notes and pdfs provided. The exams and classes are designed keeping the comfort of the students which makes us ahead of several colleges in the country.

Internships Opportunities

4

There are a lot of consultancy, developer and marketing companies visit for interships roles offering stipend range of 10k-80k per month. Eg JP morgan offers 60k stipend to 6 months interns in Mumbai for Accounting and Finance roles.

Placement Experience

4.5

Placement of Thapar is very good because when after covid many NITs struggle to offer placement to every student Thapar provided some excellent package where many of my colleagues were offered more than 20lpa packages with some of them exceeding 30lpa from companies like Linkedin. JP morgan offered 15lpa to 25 students while blackrock offered 11lpa to 15 students. My plans are to pursue MBA for which I am preparing as i have planned to do it from Germany. Aug Weinderstein.

Fees and Financial Aid

There is rule for increament of tution fees by 10% which is now almost 20lacs for 4 years with CSE branch having the maximum fees. The complete coat of my education is 18lacs including hostel as my branch was ECE. There are some scholarships provided to students who are top scorers like there is a friend of mine securing scholarships on merit basis which requires CGPA atleast greater than 9. Financial aids are also provides to students like in case of covid struck family who has lose of earning member. One can join clubs as there are dozens of them focusing on different perspective. I had joined TICC counselling cell in which i was Marketing head.

Campus Life

4.5

The annual fest helds at winter named as SATURNALIA. Along with that there is a freshers fest called FROSH WEEK where freshers are engaged in carious fun activities like treasure hunt, mini competitions etc. Apart from that every club holds some mini fest throughtout the year like Urja, Virsa, and there are tons of sports fests too. There is a variety of sports one can play here including cricket, badminton, tennis, volleyball, football, swimming, table tennis and many infoor games and also yoga and dance classes. Many of these clubs and activities helps to foster bonds between the students through various activities.

Hostel Facilities

5

Hostels of Thapar are very nice and clean with free laundry provided twice a week. The meals offered are also very good in quality are compared to other colleges i have known through people. The menu is decided by hostel committee and changes every after one month. The hostel are very big and have some indoor games like Table Tennis and badminton along with Basketball courts. Every hostel is equipped with gym. The hostel is allocated on CGPA basis but one can swap after allocation if there is someone from the other hostel who too wants to swap. Being in the heart of Patiala city one can find various PGs and rooms for various proce range and accomodation.

Admission

The cutoff is generally above 92 percentile and if one is aiming for top branches like CSE, ECE, ENC they must score atleast 95 percentile or more and for CS branches 97 percentile is bare minimum. There is percentile decrement for people belonging to Punjab as their birthplace which puts them way ahead of students who worked hard to achieve the the cutoff. There is some reserved seats for employee children and sports quota that total accounts for 10-15 seats only. The only area of improvement is removing the Punjab quota which lessens the cutoff for the admission.

Faculty

5

The faculty members of the college are very qualified and experienced having complete knowledge and strong foundations for their respective field. There are professors with decades of experience in the subjects so it is always a pleasure and honor to learn through them. The faculry is always welcoming for the doubts and problems of the students on one to one basis or through email or calls.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
