Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

From the very beginning i want to go in the field in which coding is there. Although college teaches nothing special in coding so you can be expert in coding so you have to take courses or watch youtube videos in the coding language you want to pursue. I would suggest taking Java as programming language as it is more in demand placement perspective. In college self study is the main thing, without self study if you are only dependable on like my teacher will teach me everything, NO . Spoonfeeding is not done in college so you to study yourself watch YOutube videos, Notes provided by teachers or make your own notes.

Internships Opportunities

4

Interships are provided mainly for technical profiles. In 7th semester you start your internship for 5-6 months depemding on company to company.Around 20-30k is provided per month in internship. Some companies give direct job which will start after your degree completion in july-august offer letters will be sent. I got direct placement and I will be joining in 10 September in Pune for Analyst role

Placement Experience

2.5

from 3rd year onwards you are eligible for placements. In 6th semester placements starts taking place although most of the companies come in 7th and 8th semester. as Recession is going on for technical profiles less companies are coming and more of non technical profiles like mostlt sales profile are coming. As a BTech student no one wants to go in sales division as why are we even doing Btech if we have to go to sales department so that is a disadvantage. Also mass recruiters did not come this year for recruitments , Wipro came for 3.6lpa and cognizant for onlt 2.6lpa which is outrageous and they did nit even take a lot of students. It is a bitter truth but nowadays company wants even freshers to be highly qualified otherwise you won't get any placement. The test level is increased so try to give test with your friends only In my batch only 40% students got placed that too around 28% either got less package or non technical profile

Fees and Financial Aid

In my batch the fess per semester was 45000 which is genuine and the hostel fees is 47000 including laundary. in 2023 the fees for semester increased, i Guess it become 54000 per semester for B.Tech Computer Science Engineering. For people of merit list the fees is way more less then us I got 89.2% in +2 still did not get merit in my class there was a girl who was on merit list she got around 97% marks in her +2. There are 2 blocks for Btech CSE - CEC(Chandigarh Engineering College) and my block COE(College of Engineering). As per placements point of view in CEC placements were more as compared to COE. Teachers are more strict in CEC as compared to COE where teachers are more friendly and they gave proper guidance

Campus Life

3.5

One event that i would highly recommend is MUN( Model United Nations). I participated in AIPPM Committe and it was the best event that i have ever been in. It is 2 day event and at night DJ is also there, 10/10. Parivartan is the buggest event of CGC Landran, we were very excitred for this event as in this event 2-3 rides are also there and dj, performanes and singer also come to perform but the hype was not worth it the event eas very bad. As it is biggest event of CGC we can expect that atleast it should be 8/10 but in reality it was 3/10. We did not had any fun the singer that came to perform he performed very bad and I don't know why like in other colleges, in front of stage students are enjoying the performance and all but in CGC the front is all booked for teachers students cannot even go in front we cannot sede anything, the fests are very very bad in CGC Landran. If i rate CGC Landran fests it will be 2/10. DSW has 4 clubs you can be a member of that club but it is useless

Hostel Facilities

4

In the classroom, fans don't even work properly and the watercoolers present i don;t think they are even cleaned ever. The campus is always cleaned. The campus food is very bad like in hostel mess and canteen but there is food court in campus where you can go and eat. also in front of cgc there are many food shops where you can go and enjoy your meal. Hostel life is very good, Breakfast is also good, Lunch okay okay but dinner is bad so do not skip breakfast In 4th year i rented PG in shivalik valley without food it costed me 4500 per month in which we have washing machine also

Admission

I have Chandigarh University in doubt too but the fees of CU per semester is 100000 i.e 1 lakh which is a lot. The college placements for both CGC and CU are same they take place together. Although CU students get a little advantage as all the placements takes place in CU campus only so CGC students have to go to Chandigarh university for placement process. Companies also prefer CU students more as they got a tag of university and CGC students are less preferred.

For BTech CSE in CGC Landran there are two blocks: CEC and COE CEC Teachers are not very friendly and they are very strict otherwise in my block i.e COE teachers are more on friendly side we laugh together and there is an understanding between teachers and students in COE which is absent in CEC Jagbir sir our placement coordinator he is very frendly and he gives guidance in most sympethatic way every semester there are 2 MSTs i.e Mid semester test which is of 24 marks and final examination Level of MST is easy read previous year papers for idea Final exams are board exams as CGC is affiliated with PTU Level of Final exams depends on the subject and the mood of PTU ofcourse sometimes papers are easy to the point and sometimes paper are lengthy and tough so it totally depends on PTU. Read pervious year exam papers and for subject help watch OG youtuber Gate Smashers video.

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

NITJ has a placement cell, also known as the Centre of Training and Placements(TPO office of NITJ). The placement scenes differ depending on the courses offered. The average placements are 12-14LPA in the Computer Science branch. Every year, hundreds of companies, including Pvt and govt both. PSUs like HPCL and BPCL recruit students based on merit and academic excellence.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
