Course Curriculum Overview

5

The Electronics and Communication branch at NIT Hamirpur is quite good. It has a club named SPEC which organises Hackathons and other technical events and participation is form all over India. The teachers dealing with electronics are very experienced and are connected to Industry which benefits the student for placement opportunities. Major improvements can be brought in providing real life applications of the Gadgets and Systems. Exams are twice in a semester- Mid Semester and End Semester. The exams cover almost every topic taught to us. 2-3 weeks are spent in examinations. With the new advancement in VLSI and semiconductors the placement opportunities will rise in Electronics and Communication branch in the next 4-5 years. This makes this course very good for future aspect. Indian Government is also investing in the semiconductor industry and the opportunities for top students will definitely rise giving this course a green signal for me.

Internships Opportunities

4

Companies conduct a test round and offer intership to qualified candidates. Samsung, TCS, Wipro are major companies which offer interships with stipends ranging from 20000-30000 per month as per the roles offered.

Placement Experience

4

The Placement of our college are above average. The placement percentage for the year 2023 was 84%. Over 80+ companies visit the campus for internship and placement programmes. The average package was 7 lakhs for 2023. The highest was 40 lakhs bagged by CSE student. Top companies like Google and Amazon also visit the campus. College initiates the internship programmes from 6th semester in 3rd year. Top companies include Samsung, TCS, Wipro, Tata Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra, Paytm, Intel, HDFC Bank and many more. Currently I have planned to go for on campus placements after my degree. I have also planned to do a side Hustle in my area of interests during my college life.

Fees and Financial Aid

For BTech the average fee is about 640000 for the four years which has been increased from last year. Tuition fee is about 83600 per semester. Caution fee is 5000. Admission fee is 1000. Various scholarships are available for certain category of students which they can avail. The hostel fee is 40000 per semester for both boys and girls. 25000 of this is mess fee and 10000 is the Hostel room fees. Other 5000 is security deposit.

Campus Life

4

Major fests include Hillfair and Nimbus. There are many other fests too like Hackathons organised by different clubs and their members. Hillfair is mostly conducted in October or November and Nimbus in March or April. The library is full of quality books and are easily accessible with the help of Library cards provided by institute. You will find many novels and all subject books of different authors and publishers in the Library. The classrooms are well maintained with Smart Boards and Wifi facility. There are departmental clubs for Sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Chess, Basketball, Badminton and Athletics. The clubs provide us with knowledge and improve our social skills and team work. Some Students also work on different startups which motivates us all to think about our future in Technology. The clubs don't affect your academics as long as you attend majority of the lectures and study hard enough after club timings. Overall the clubs for managed by students NIT Hamirpur

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Hostels are good with airy rooms and clean washrooms. The room has a bed, study table and one cupboard each for students. For boys it's 3 or 4 seaters in first year and for girls it's 7 seater in first year. There are ceiling fans and wall fans. A balcony is available in all rooms. The mess food is good in the initial months. Later the food quality decreases with time. Menu is decided by the student commitee and is mostly the same. After admission process starts the registration process for hostels. The hostel charges 40000 per semester which includes mess fee and room rent fee. The locality is clean and silent for all hostels. There are private PGs available inside the campus which charges about 10000 per month including the food expenses.

Admission

I also applied for Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology. But the fee structure of TIET was overbudget for my family. Later I got selected in the ECE branch at NIT Hamirpur and choose to go with it as it was affordable and it is one of the top Enginnering Institutes in India. The admission process for NIT Hamirpur is that you have to appear for JEE Mains examination and secure a good rank. A good rank can guarantee you admission at NIT Hamirpur. Take the JOSAA councelling and priotise NIT Hamirpur above all to get admission here. The cutoff for General students for entry at NIT Hamirpur is 95-96 percentile in JEE Mains. For OBC its 93-95 percentile in JEE Mains. For SC/ST it's 85-90 percentile. The cutoffs are less for Home State candidates. For top branches 97-99 percentile is required for General candidate and 96-98 for OBC candidates. And 90-95 for SC/ST candidates.

Faculty

4

Our College has experienced Faculty in all streams. Though there is shortage of faculties fulfilled by Guest Faculties from different Universities. Faculty to student ratio in first year is about 1:90 for each subject. All faculties work hard to fulfill student needs and try their best to bring the best out of students. 70% attendance in each subject is necessary to appear in exams. Mid semester and End Semester are the exam period which stretch for about 2-3 weeks. Exams are of medium difficulty and mostly related to Previous year Questions. Mostly students find Enginnering Mathematics as a difficult subject to study. About 200 first year students out of 700 fail to qualify it. The course curriculum is being made relevant by implementation of New Education Policy from the year 2023. Marking scheme is 30% for mid semester, 20% for internal assessment and 50% for end semester. A CGPA of 8.5+ is considered good for placements.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities at my college are average. A few reputed companies visit the campus each year, but the number of offers and salary packages varies depending on the branch and market conditions. Students who have strong academic performance, technical skills, internships, and good communication skills generally have better chances of getting placed.
