Course Curriculum Overview

4

I choose ECE at thapar because of its brand name. although I had studied at VIT vellore CSE for almost 1.5 months, I even gave the CAT 1 exams there. the teaching methods are good although some subjects i feel are irrevelant for some branches. like studying for a computer science student what is the use of chemistry?

Internships Opportunities

4

The alumni network of thapar is great because it is an old college. so the internship and placement opportunities are great here at thapar. top companies visit thapar for recruitment in every branch ..

Placement Experience

4

the campus placements are great, top companies like Google and microsoft come for recruiting here. the averange package is around 14 lakhs and the median package is round 12lakhs. the percentage of students getting placed is also high

Fees and Financial Aid

I paid three lakh rupees for first semester, it includes the tuition fees for first semester as well as the admission fees. I paid 41,000 something for the hostel fees(one semester only). every hostel has different fees. all types of rooms are available AC/NON AC. there is 50 percent punjab quota here although there is no difference in the tuition fees. I dont have punjab quota. the approx TUITION fees for all four years of btech is around twenty-one lakh ruppes(approx). and the average (hostel + mess fees) for a semester is around 60-80 thousand. so the total fees for four years is around 25-30 lakhs.

Campus Life

3.5

The campus life is great, clubs and societies events are held regularly. The infrastructure is great the area around which classes are held is very modern and clean. the equipments in class and labs are high tech.

Hostel Facilities

4

There are many types of hostels in thapar for freshers. some are new and some are old. the hostels are clean and regularly maintained, the mess food is also above average mostly serving north indian food.

Admission

I was in VIT vellore CSE core for a month and a half. after I got admission in thapar in the spot round I shifted the college. there was one major reason which was the huge crowd at VIT vellore. there 1st year intake is approx 11k and out of them there are 6k+ only in the Compter field. in comparison to VIT vellore here are thapar the 1st year student intake is about 2-2.5k and in CSE there are 800+ students which is a lot but in comparison to VIT very less. the second reason for me to shift the college was the college brand name. In north india the college brand name of thapar is more than VIT vellore.

Faculty

4

The faculty members are good and coorperative. The teaching language is both Hindi and english. regular sessions called tutorials are held for doubt solving which is great as there is no disturbance regarding doubts in between lectures.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
