- The best thing about this college is the faculty. Some teachers are top class educators. You'll definitely learn a lot from them.
- It is very much affordable. They don't have that strict attendance, so it's a positive thing from students' perspective.
- The class environment will be very competitive so that will push everyone to give their best, and learn from each other.
Dislikes
- The college don't have as such amenities or infrastructure. That should be improved.
- Campus life, social interactions, quality events: these are lacking.
- Politics is definitely there, and unity is lacking. Also, they must include active societies.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course and university because their curriculum is tough but worth studying. Students will understand a clear concept. This will perfectly set their foundation. Yes, theoretical knowledge is more. They should focus on practical exposure as well. Instead of written assignments, projects should be given. Some of the professors' teaching methods can be improved. 2 semesters happens every year, along with 2 short exams (Some changes in NEP, check). Short exams are easy, but the main ones are tough to crack if you're not well prepared.
Fees and Financial Aid
The overall fees is something around 35-40k You need to pay it in three times; once in every year. This being a government college, the fees is not to high, but you can also apply for Scholarships. There are multiple scholarships, and based on your merit you can get a good waiver. This is the fees for statistics course. It also differs with the general subject you choose between economics and computer science. As I've been graduated, I can say this fees is very much worth paying.
Campus Life
This is the biggest drawback of the college. They don't have much extras curricular activities. Active societies should be introduced. Events and competitions should be organised. Students themselves have to organise their freshers and farewells. The library is good. Technological provisions could be improved. Social life and interactions should be promoted more.
Admission
I applied to presidency, st. Xavier's, but as I was from Covid batch, I couldn't meet the required cutoff for those colleges. So yes I got rejection from them. Had I given my ISC board exams, I believe I'd have scored better marks, but hard luck :) I willingly chose this college over the other colleges of Calcutta University, considering this is the best. This college gets numerous applications, so it might be difficult to get the admission, but work upon your merit and connections. There's no entrance. You need to meet their eligibility criteria which keeps get changing, so refer to their website. Your merit will be considered. You must have a good network as well. Once you're selected, the admission process is subtle.
Faculty
The faculty ti student ratio is good. Some of the professors have the best knowledge. Their teaching method is top class. I'd name our HoD, Dhiman Dutta as the best faculty. The way he approached and engaged the students is appreciative. One of the best teachers of Statistics. Yes, there were also a few teachers who were not up to the mark. They can improve their teaching style to make it more easy for students. But no doubt, everyone is helpful. The unit test exams are very easy. But as the overall CU curriculum is a tough, main exams can be challenging if one is not fully prepared. It has a rigourous coursework and mainly focusing on theoretical knowledge. If you don't study rigourously, you might get a backlog but the coursework is very relevant.
